Dynasty Fantasy Football QB Trade Values Heading Into Training Camp
Here’s our latest episode of the Dynasty Trade Block.
Is Lamar Jackson (QB – BAL) Undervalued?
The conversation started with a question from the community: would it make sense to trade Lamar Jackson for an injured Malik Nabers in a superflex league? Both analysts were firmly against that idea, and digging into the numbers made the disagreement with the market even more glaring. One analyst currently has Lamar ranked third overall in superflex dynasty, but in the middle of an ongoing dynasty startup draft, Lamar fell all the way to the 12th pick, the very end of the first round, while Nabers went at pick 211.
That gap stunned both hosts. The case for Lamar staying near the top of the market: he’s not even 30 years old, he was still playing at an elite level in weeks one and two last season before his injury in week three derailed the rest of his year, and he has never failed to have an MVP-caliber first season under a new play caller, which is exactly the situation he’s in again this year. There’s an acknowledgment that Josh Allen and a younger Drake Maye being ranked ahead of him makes sense, but falling all the way to the back of round one in a startup draft is viewed as an overcorrection. The larger point made is that there’s a real gap right now between what Lamar is actually likely to produce this season and what the current startup market is pricing him at, which could represent a buying opportunity for managers willing to bet against the recency bias from last year’s injury-shortened season.
Breaking Tied Quarterback Rankings
Several quarterbacks are currently tied on the dynasty trade value chart, so the hosts went through and broke those ties one by one:
Drake Maye over Josh Allen. Maye immediately looked like one of the best pure passers in the league last season and carries a significant age advantage.
Caleb Williams over Joe Burrow. The mobility gap and age difference tip this one, even with an acknowledgment that Burrow is the better pure passer. Burrow’s injury history is also viewed as a mild concern.
Justin Herbert over Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes is expected to age well, but Kansas City’s offense hasn’t looked like it did earlier in his career, ranking 22nd in yards per play over the last two seasons. Herbert’s overall trajectory is viewed as pointing up.
Trevor Lawrence over Jaxson Dart. Dart still has too much left to prove at this stage.
Brock Purdy over Bo Nix. Nix averaged just 6.4 yards per pass attempt last season and still didn’t reach 4,000 passing yards despite throwing the most passes in the league, leaving real doubt about whether he’s actually a plus passer yet.
C.J. Stroud over Tyler Shough. This one is close and debatable, but Stroud gets the slight edge.
Sam Darnold over Baker Mayfield. A close call, with Darnold getting a small nod.
Malik Willis over Kyler Murray over Bryce Young. This three-way tie broke down to almost no interest in Young, who’s viewed as a likely to lose his starting job after this season. Murray’s long-term outlook is murkier and may hinge on a strong season with the Vikings. Willis is the preferred name of the three, with hope that he gets a long enough leash that a difficult supporting cast doesn’t get held against him in the evaluation.
FAQ: Dynasty Quarterback Trade Values
Is Lamar Jackson undervalued in dynasty superflex leagues right now?
Yes, according to our analysts. Despite being ranked third overall in superflex dynasty by one analyst, Lamar fell to the final pick of the first round in a live startup draft. Given his age, his elite play before last season’s week three injury, and his track record of strong first seasons under new play callers, the market price is viewed as lower than his actual value.
Who is ranked higher in dynasty, Drake Maye or Josh Allen?
Drake Maye is ranked higher by one analyst, largely due to his age advantage and how much like an elite pure passer he already looked as a rookie starter last season.
Should you value Justin Herbert or Patrick Mahomes higher in dynasty?
Justin Herbert is currently preferred over Mahomes, driven by concern about Kansas City’s offensive decline, which has ranked 22nd in yards per play over the last two seasons, compared to a more optimistic outlook for Herbert’s situation.
Is Bo Nix or Brock Purdy the better dynasty quarterback right now?
Brock Purdy is ranked higher. Bo Nix averaged only 6.4 yards per attempt last season and didn’t reach 4,000 passing yards despite leading the league in pass attempts, raising doubts about his efficiency as a passer.
