Gerrit Cole fans 11 in Opening Day victory Thursday

Gerrit Cole (1-0, 0.00) pitched six innings, allowing zero runs on three hits and two walks while striking out 11 Giants in New York’s 5-0 win against San Francisco.

Fantasy Impact:

Cole came out dealing, striking out the side in both the 1st and 2nd innings. He also became the first Yankee pitcher to register double-digit strikeouts on Opening Day, reaching that milestone in just the 4th inning. The team shutout victory was also New York’s first on Opening Day since 1988. Cole rewarded fantasy managers who expended that early-round draft capital on the Yankee ace. Cole’s next start is slated for Wednesday against the Phillies.
