German Marquez Delivers Strong Start, But Rockies Fall to Phillies
by Chase Davis | Fri, May 23rd 8:37am EDT
German Marquez allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out five over seven innings in Thursday's loss to the Phillies.
Fantasy Impact:
After today’s performance, Marquez holds a 7.66 ERA and 1.68 WHIP with a 1-7 record across ten starts this season. Despite the solid outing against a tough opponent, fantasy managers will want to stay clear. Marquez's strikeout rate is down to an unusable 12% (2nd percentile), and his walk rate is almost as high as his strikeout rate is low. His xERA (4.48), FIP (4.48), and xFIP (5.16) all suggest he deserves better than a mid-7s ERA. However, it comes with little upside in the form of strikeouts or win potential. He gets the Cubs next time out.
