Braxton Ashcraft suffers loss in season debut Monday
by David Leisering | Pirates Correspondent | Mon, Mar 30th 10:55pm EDT
Braxton Ashcraft (0-1) went six innings and allowed two runs on four hits, but was outdueled by Cincinnati's Chase Burns as the Pirates dropped a 2-0 decision to the Reds on Monday. Ashcraft walked four and struck out three.
Fantasy Impact:
Ashcraft earned a spot in the Pirates' rotation after a sensational spring that saw him pitch to a 2.03 ERA with a 16:1 K:BB ratio in 13.1 innings. Ashcraft didn't quite have the command on Monday as he did in the spring, but he did a good job of limiting damage and allowed only two fourth-inning runs. Ashcraft appeared in 26 games last season for the Pirates and made eight starts, pitching to a 2.71 ERA in 69.2 innings. He's tentatively scheduled for his next start against the Orioles on Sunday.
