Carmen Mlodzinski strikes out eight in first start of season

by David Leisering | Pirates Correspondent | Sun, Mar 29th 8:22pm EDT

Carmen Mlodzinski allowed two runs on six hits in 4.1 innings in a no-decision on Sunday afternoon against the Mets. He did not walk a batter and struck out eight. The Pirates won the game, 4-3, in 10 innings.

Fantasy Impact:

Mlodzinski labored a bit as it took him 85 pitches - 55 strikes - to get through 4.1 innings. However, It was just the righthander's 18th career start in 110 appearances at the major league level. As a starter, Mlodzinski has a 4.45 ERA with a 49:19 K:BB ratio as opposed to a 2.71 ERA with a 128:45 K:BB ratio as a reliever. However, this was a promising start for Mlodzinski and he could be worth a speculative add, especially in deeper leagues, as he should remain in the rotation for the foreseeable future.
