Jose Urquidy records second career save Sunday

by David Leisering | Pirates Correspondent | Sun, Mar 29th 9:07pm EDT

Jose Urquidy allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the tenth inning, but hung on to earn the save as the Pirates defeated the Mets, 4-3 in 10 innings, on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact:

Urquidy was a late signing by the Pirates this offseason, but made the Opening Day roster despite a rough spring. After a leadoff walk to Francisco Lindor, Urquidy allowed an RBI double to Juan Soto, which brought home the automatic runner from second. The righthander then got help from Oneil Cruz as he threw out Lindor at the plate on the Soto hit. Urquidy then retired Bo Bichette and Jorge Polanco to secure the Pirates' win. It was Urquidy's second career save with his first coming in 2023 as a member of the Astros. Save opportunities should be few and far between for Urquidy, so don't rush to the wire expecting him to take over as the Pirates' closer.
