Johan Oviedo (elbow) shut down six weeks with flexor strain

by Bruno Mulé | Red Sox Correspondent | Wed, Apr 8th 11:54am EDT

Oviedo has been diagnosed with a right flexor strain and will be shut down for six weeks. The Red Sox are optimistic he can avoid surgery but will need to monitor whether the injury heals with rest. Even if all goes well, he'll require additional time to ramp back up after the shutdown period, pointing to an extended absence. (Jen McCaffrey)

Fantasy Impact:

Oviedo is already on the 15-day IL and is a candidate to be transferred to the 60-day IL if Boston needs to clear a 40-man roster spot.
