Austin Slater agrees to deal with Mets

by David Leisering | Marlins Correspondent | Sun, Apr 26th 9:20pm EDT

Austin Slater has agreed to a deal with the New York Mets. His signing comes shortly after Tommy Pham was designated for assignment. (Will Sammon on X)

Fantasy Impact:

Slater was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Wednesday, cleared waivers, and elected free agency earlier Sunday. Slater batted just .174 (4-for-23) in 12 games with the Marlins and is a career .247 hitter in 711 games over 10 seasons in the majors. Slater should slide into Pham's role as the complement to left-handed rookie Carson Benge.
