Tigers left-hander Framber Valdez allowed just one earned run with eight strikeouts in six innings while picking up the win over the Yankees on Monday.

Valdez yielded four hits, and just one extra-base hit, with two walks against his eight strikeouts in silencing a suddenly scuffling Yankees offense in Monday's series opener. Monday marked the 10th time in 16 starts that Valdez has completed six innings, while he has nine quality starts, but just four wins on the season. He will take a 3.91 ERA into his next scheduled start, which is set for Saturday at home against his former team, the Houston Astros.
