Tigers right-hander Troy Melton allowed just one unearned run on four hits and one walk across 5 1/3 innings, earning the win over the Athletics on Wednesday.

Melton largely cruised through Wednesday's outing, striking out a career-high nine on the evening, including striking out the side in the fifth inning. A Zach McKinstry throwing error in the fourth inning accounted for the lone run against Melton and Tigers pitching on Wednesday. Melton has now allowed one or fewer earned runs in four straight starts, while he has yielded two earned runs or fewer in seven of his eight starts this season. He will carry a tidy 1.82 ERA into the All-Star break and is quickly becoming a fixture in the Tigers' rotation for years to come.
