__________
Quarterback
New England: Newton was hurting fantasy rosters more than helping them just a couple of weeks ago, but he re-emerged last week as a safe option due to his rushing usage. In this matchup, Newton’s unlikely to put up crazy passing numbers, but he should continue to be featured as a runner. Against a Jets team that is struggling to stop anyone on defense, Newton should bring a safe enough floor to be viewed as a low-end QB1.
New York: Darnold’s not worth considering for fantasy football in this offense.
Running Backs
New England: Harris has emerged as a solid fantasy option in this Patriots backfield. While it feels weird to write that sentence, it’s true. He’s seeing plenty of carries in this offense and he was even able to find the end zone last week. Against the Jets defense, the Patriots should lean on Harris in this one and he can be viewed as a safe, low-end RB2 option.
New York: Perine and Gore continue to split the workload in this offense, which pushes both of them down the fantasy rankings. With very little opportunities to score, Perine and Gore can both be viewed as RB3s that should only be plugged into your lineup if you’re in an absolute pinch.
Wide Receivers
New England: Meyers is seeing enough targets to be considered as a low-end WR3 and he has a good matchup here against the Jets secondary. Otherwise, none of the other Patriots WRs are worth looking at for fantasy this week.
New York: At the time of writing, Crowder has yet to practice this week, which makes it highly unlikely that he plays in week nine. If that’s the case, Berrios becomes a decent pivot option for fantasy managers that need a fill-in option. He’s going to see significant targets in this offense, but they just might not amount to much from a fantasy perspective. Berrios can be viewed as a high-end FLEX play in Full PPR formats. Mims has shown flashes of his talent that made people excited about him coming out of Baylor, but he’s not seeing enough targets in this poor offense that would put him in the FLEX conversation. In addition to that, he’s likely to draw coverage from Stephon Gilmore – assuming that he plays – in this matchup. It’s probably best to leave Mims on your bench.
Tight Ends
New England: None of the Patriots TEs are worth considering for fantasy football this week.
New York: None of the Jets TEs are worth considering for fantasy football this week.
FantasyProjection Buster: In such a low scoring game, it’s really going to come down to which player is able to find the end zone? Whoever does will shatter any other players projected point totals.
