Do you think a single person had New York Jets quarterback Josh Johnson in their fantasy lineup last week? Unfortunately, unless you’re in a super deep four QB league, we all probably missed out on Johnson’s QB3 performance, where most of the production came in garbage time as the Indianapolis Colts stopped trying. Johnson may never play another NFL down, but he’ll go out on a high note.
Aside from Johnson’s random performance, plenty of familiar names finished as QB1s in Week 9. Let’s recap how last week went, then dive into the Week 10 QB1 Primer.

Week 9 Recap
Mid-Range Passers with QB1 Upside
Joe Burrow: QB23 in Week 9
Kirk Cousins: QB7 in Week 9
Ouch. Burrow had a rough day in what should’ve been a solid matchup against the Browns. But Cousins made up for it with a solid QB1 performance in a losing effort.

Tua Tagovailoa: DNP
Tyrod Taylor: QB24 in Week 9
Teddy Bridgewater: QB6 in Week 9
Jordan Love: QB18 in Week 9
Woof. If not for Bridgewater, this would’ve been a disastrous group of streaming options. Tua doesn’t count because he was ruled out. Tyrod was rusty after missing extended time. And Jordan Love can’t play football! Gross, gross, gross.
Week 10 Mid-Range Passers with QB1 Upside
Matthew Stafford at San Francisco: ECR QB6
I’m calling for a bounce-back performance for Stafford against a 49ers defense that’s banged up in the secondary. Whether Odell Beckham Jr. suits up or not, Stafford and this Rams offense should roll. The Niners are giving up the third-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.
Carson Wentz vs. Jacksonville: ECR QB11
I think Wentz is a little undervalued this week. Yes, the Jaguars just shut down Josh Allen and the Buffalo offense. But Indy’s offense is playing at a high level, and the Colts have had a long week to prepare for this divisional foe. The Jaguars give up 19 points to opposing fantasy QBs, and Wentz could be in store for another strong showing.
Derek Carr vs. Kansas City: ECR QB12
I’m not putting much stock into Kansas City’s “encouraging” defensive performances the last two weeks. One came against Daniel Jones. The other came against Jordan Love. This defense is still yielding nearly 22 fantasy points per game to opposing passers. It hasn’t suddenly undergone a turnaround. Carr and the Raiders offense looked out of sync at times last week against the Giants, but I’m banking on a bounce back.

Matt Ryan at Dallas: ECR QB15
I’m willing to ride the wave with Ryan again after an impressive performance last week on the road against the Saints. QBs can exploit the Cowboys’ pass defense, and they’re surrendering the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing QBs. I suspect Dallas’ offense will come out firing, forcing the Falcons to rely more on the aerial attack. Hopefully, Ryan can just protect the football.
Ben Roethlisberger vs. Detroit: ECR QB19
If you can’t use Big Ben against Detroit, when can you use him? If you’re in a desperate situation, I can live with Roethlisberger against a lousy Lions secondary. Expect a massive day from Diontae Johnson too.
Trevor Lawrence at Indianapolis: ECR QB22
I’m pretty much done with the No. 1 overall pick from a fantasy perspective, as he’s only scored 15 or more fantasy points just four times this season. But perhaps he can get something going against a Colts secondary that’s been generous to opposing QBs this season. We just saw what Josh Johnson did against them.
