Fantasy Baseball Mock Draft: 12-Team, Early Pick (2025)

Fantasy Baseball Mock Draft: 12-Team, Early Pick (2025)

We are just about one week away from the Dodgers and Cubs opening the 2025 MLB season in Japan and just over two weeks away from Opening Day for every other team. Draft season for many leagues is right around the corner, which makes now the best time to do some fantasy baseball mock drafts to get yourself best prepared for your real leagues.

Fantasy Baseball Mock Draft

In this mock draft, I’ll be drafting from the No. 2 pick in a 12-team league. The roster for this mock will be: 1-C, 1-1B, 1-2B, 1-3B, 3-OF, 1-UTIL, 5-P and four bench spots. The draft board is here.

1.02: Bobby Witt (SS – KC)

This is a no-brainer pick for me at No. 2 overall after Shohei Ohtani. Bobby Witt is a player who can do it all for fantasy managers as the clear next pick in all scoring formats.

2.11: Zack Wheeler (SP – PHI)

3.02: Ketel Marte (2B – ARI)

This second-round/third-round turn is a tough spot this season when you have an early pick. I landed Zack Wheeler and Ketel Marte, who I felt were two safe selections in this range. I was hoping someone like Trea Turner would fall, but that likely won’t happen. I also considered Ronald Acuna Jr. at 2.11 (he went 2.12), but elected to go the safer route in this mock.

4.11: Pete Alonso (1B – NYM)

I liked the value I got with Pete Alonso at the end of round four. He should have a huge RBI upside this season with the Mets bringing in Juan Soto, who will hit in front of him in the lineup. There was a lot of drama on Alonso potentially heading elsewhere in free agency, but he wound up running it back in what I believe should be a huge season for him.

5.02: Kyle Schwarber (OF – PHI)

6.11: Lawrence Butler (OF – ATH)

I went back-to-back outfielders here. I see it as a higher-upside player in Kyle Schwarber (with a fairly safe floor as well) paired with a young outfielder in Lawrence Butler, who just broke out last year and is fresh off a huge extension. I usually select my OF1 in the first few rounds, but if I do wait, I like this route of pairing what both Schwarber and Butler bring.

7.02: Junior Caminero (3B – TB)

One of my favorite mid-round targets in drafts this season at third base is Junior Caminero. As one of the top prospects in baseball, he is projected to have a huge year in what will be a new (and smaller) home ballpark for Tampa Bay, especially in the power department.

8.11: Andres Munoz (RP – SEA)

It was a down year last season for Andres Munoz compared to expectations. He added a “kick change-up” to his pitch arsenal this offseason that is expected to make his stuff even nastier.

Munoz has thrown it a few times already in spring training games and it is safe to say he will be able to rack up a ton of strikeouts with that pitch. The Mariners will continue to be playing in a lot of close games, which should provide Munoz plenty of save chances.

9.02: Mike Trout (OF – LAA)

This is purely drafting for the “what if” Mike Trout stays healthy narrative. I’ll take my chances on his talent and upside with all of the risk being baked into him being drafted this late.

10.11: Joe Ryan (SP – MIN)

11.02: Bryan Woo (SP – SEA)

12.11: Sandy Alcantara (SP – MIA)

I don’t usually wait on starting pitchers in points leagues, but I always go best player available each round, and that’s the way the draft board fell to me after grabbing Wheeler early.

I like my chances of at least two of Joe Ryan, Bryan Woo and Sandy Alcantara landing, which I feel is what I need here for this group of starters to pan out. There is some risk in waiting this long for starting pitchers, but there is a world where this can pan out.

13.02: Steven Kwan (OF – CLE)

14.11: Tanner Scott (RP – LAD)

15.02: Gabriel Moreno (C – ARI)

16.11: Josh Jung (3B – TEX)

I always punt the catcher position. Gabriel Moreno, Logan O’Hoppe, Austin Wells and Keibert Ruiz are a handful of catchers I like to target late in the double-digit rounds.

On my bench, I am always aiming for high upside, which I see in Josh Jung. Steven Kwan is a safe selection in the outfield as well as Mike Trout insurance.

Draft Wizard Insights

The Draft Wizard gave this draft an A-, 91/100 grade. I’m projected to finish second in the league.

I liked the way the mock went quite a bit, which I don’t always say. There is some risk at starting pitcher with how long I waited after Wheeler, but I’m confident in the core I drafted given the strengths of my lineup.

I usually always wait on the catcher position as well as for closers. There are always closers who pop up on the waiver wire throughout the season, so it is not a position I usually prioritize.
