Fantasy Baseball SP Rankings: Streamers, Two-Starts & Risky Plays

Welcome to the FantasyPros Week 3 starting pitcher rankings. Every Friday, we’ll take an in-depth look at the upcoming week and rank every starting pitcher based on their overall skills, current production, head-to-head matchup and park factor. These rankings are for Monday, April 7th through Sunday, April 13th.

Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitchers Guide: Week 3

Top 50 Starting Pitchers (April 7th-April 13th)

Smash Spots

Jacob deGrom (SP – TEX) @ SEA

Jacob deGrom looked terrific against the Red Sox, pitching five shutout innings with two hits allowed, two walks, and six strikeouts. The former Met put up an impressive 20.5% swinging-strike rate in this outing.

Next up is a smash spot against a strikeout-prone Mariners team in a pitcher-friendly environment at T-Mobile Park.

Hunter Brown (SP – HOU) @ SEA

Hunter Brown has picked up right where he left off last season, allowing a combined four runs with three walks and 15 strikeouts in 12 innings. It’s clear that the Astros righty is taking the next step in becoming an ace.

We’re picking on the Mariners again here, as they currently have a 25.3 K% vs righties.

Nick Pivetta (SP – SD) vs. COL

Nick Pivetta dazzled in his Padres debut, shutting down the Braves with a one-hitter over seven scoreless innings, including zero walks and four strikeouts. The veteran is going to enjoy pitching at Petco Park.

Look for another strong start from Pivetta against a Rockies offense that is consistently among the worst on the road.

Risky Starts

Freddy Peralta (SP – MIL) @ COL, @ ARI

Freddy Peralta has been fantastic so far this season, combining for 13 innings, three runs, one walk, and 16 strikeouts. This included a start at Yankee Stadium against the Bronx Bombers, who are hitting homers like crazy right now.

While you’re not benching him, we’ve got two tough matchups on tap at Coors vs the Rockies and against the D-Backs.

Zach Eflin (SP – BAL) @ ARI, vs TOR

Zach Eflin is an innings eater who can rack up quality starts, as we’ve seen so far this year, where he’s allowed five total runs in 12 innings, including one walk and seven strikeouts. The issue is the lack of strikeout upside here.

That makes Eflin a risky start vs the Diamondbacks and Blue Jays, each of which rank in the top seven in K% vs RHP.

Justin Steele (SP – CHC) vs. TEX, @ LAD

Justin Steele has gotten off to a poor start this season, allowing 12 runs with three walks and 13 strikeouts in 15.2 innings, including five home runs. There’s enough of a track record here to trust Steele, but this week will be tough.

Matchups against the Rangers and Dodgers — two elite offenses — make Steele a risky play in this two-start week.

Two-Start Pitchers

Kodai Senga (SP – NYM) vs. MIA, @ ATH

Kodai Senga looked pretty sharp in his season debut against the Marlins, putting up one walk and eight strikeouts with two earned runs in five innings. This a pitcher with upside when healthy, so you can fire up him in this two-start week.

It starts off with a rematch with the lowly Marlins, followed by a trip to the bandbox that is Sutter Health Park to face the A’s.

Zac Gallen (SP – TB) vs. BAL, vs. MIL

Zac Gallen has had an uneven start to the season, starting off with a poor outing vs the Cubs but then completely dominating the Yankees. The veteran righty racked up 13 strikeouts vs New York on April 2.

You have to feel good about firing up Gallen in a two-start week following that outing, even vs the O’s and Brewers.

Shane Baz (SP – TB) vs. LAA, vs. TOR

Shane Baz showed everyone why he’s been such a hyped pitcher over the years, cruising through the Pirates with 10 strikeouts in six shutout innings. Now fully healthy, the long-awaited breakout may finally be here.

Fire up Baz to see if he can build on this momentum in a two-start week vs the Angels and Blue Jays.

Top Streamers

Tylor Megill (SP – NYM) vs MIA

Tylor Megill looked impressive in his season debut, allowing only one run on three hits in five innings, racking up six strikeouts with only one walk. The strong command was key, as Megill as had issues with walks in the past.

Look for the Mets righty to build on this outing in a terrific spot at home against the Marlins.

Hayden Wesneski (SP – HOU) @ SEA, vs. LAA

Hayden Wesneski showed some strikeout upside in his season debut vs the Giants, racking up six punchouts in only five innings. This included a 13.6% swinging-strike rate, making the former Cub look intriguing.

You’ll want to ride with Wesneski in a two-start week vs the strikeout-prone Mariners and Angels.

Brady Singer (SP – CIN) vs. PIT

Brady Singer turned in a strong outing in his Reds debut, pitching seven shutout innings, allowing one hit with two walks and eight strikeouts in a tough matchup vs the Rangers.

Next up is an exploitable spot vs the Pirates, who still have a mediocre lineup, even with Oneil Cruz on fire to start the year.
