Closer News & Notes

We have a new leader in saves in the MLB as Carlos Estevez holds the lead with 22 saves.

Robert Suarez was ejected from Thursday’s game after hitting Shohei Ohtani with a pitch. The MLB handed him a three-game suspension on Friday, which he is appealing, as he said it was not intentional. We should know by the end of the weekend how many games he will be suspended for.

It has been a strong month for both Trevor Megill and Aroldis Chapman, as they each have six saves in the first 20 days of the month.

Ryan Helsley, on the other hand, has struggled. He allowed a run in each of his first four appearances in June. He’ll be a closer to monitor to see if he can bounce back in his upcoming appearances.

The Diamondbacks’ bullpen is thinning out as both Justin Martinez and A.J. Puk are now out for the season. They will be a team to monitor closer to the trade deadline to see what they do.

The Yankees activated Luke Weaver from the injured list (IL) on Friday. Manager Aaron Boone said it will be a committee between him and Devin Williams.
