Week 1 is now in the books. There are numerous storylines to track, but perhaps the most significant is the overlooked IDP players who showed out in Week 1. There were a lot of defensive fireworks in Week 1, so there are more than a few intriguing names on the waiver wire in leagues of all sizes. Let’s take a look at some of the names that may be worth some of your free agent budget. We have prepared a more exhaustive list for Week 2, as many IDP managers opt for the tried-and-true IDP strategy of raiding waivers ahead of Week 2.
Week 2 IDP Waiver Wire
Linebacker
Drue Tranquill (LB – KC): 3% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Drue was elite in Week 1, racking up four solos, one assist, two sacks, and two tackles for loss in the mini revenge game. Tranquill is an easy LB3 play, but as outings like this past week show, he does carry considerable upside. With that said, this will probably be one of, if not his biggest, spike weeks of the year. Add and start Tranquill where possible, but temper expectations to an LB3 level.
SirVocea Dennis (LB – TB): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Dennis was excellent in Week 1, tallying seven solos, three assists, two tackles for loss, and one pass defended. Dennis played 95 percent of the snaps and will continue to be an everydown player as long as he is rolling. Add and start Dennis as an LB3 with LB2 upside for a plus Week 2 matchup against the Houston Texans.
Pete Werner (LB – NO): 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Werner showed up in Week 1, racking up seven solos, two assists, and one sack. Werner is an LB2 play this season and should be rostered and started in all competitive leagues. Add him where possible.
Devin White (LB – LV): 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Devin White flashed his pre-contract dispute form in Week 1, tallying eight solos, three assists, and one tackle for loss. He got some extra burn with Elandon Roberts getting hurt, but likely played well enough to make the coaching staff think about ascending him permanently. White is worth a speculative add where available.
Tyrel Dodson (LB – MIA): 3% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Dodson was excellent in Week 1, racking up six solos, seven assists, and one tackle for loss. Despite being listed as a backup on the unofficial depth chart leading into Week 1, Dodson played every snap for the Dolphins, while Willie Gay played zero defensive snaps. Add Dodson where available as an LB2/3 for a plus Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots.
Demetrius Knight Jr. (LB – CIN): 2% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Demetrius was excellent in Week 1, tallying eight solos, two assists, and one pass defended. Knight was surprisingly handed the starting job alongside Logan Wilson when the Bengals released Germaine Pratt, and the early returns have been positive. Knight saw 78 percent of the snaps in Week 1 and should continue to hover around the 80 percent mark for the foreseeable future. Continue to treat Knight as an LB3 with LB2 upside for a plus Week 2 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Demario Davis (LB – NO): 8% rostered in Yahoo leagues
One of the ageless ones of the Saints’ defense, Demario Davis showed up in Week 1, reeling off six solos, three assists, and two tackles for loss. Davis will settle in as an LB2/3 over the season, but is a top-25 play with plus matchups like he had against Atlanta. He has another one in Week 2 against San Francisco. Add and start Davis where needed.
Nate Landman (LB – LAR): 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Landman was excellent in Week 1, tallying six solos, four assists, and one forced fumble. Landman is proving to be an impact addition for the Rams and should continue to provide LB2 value the rest of the way. Treat him as such for a plus Week 2 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. Make the add where possible.
Henry To’oTo’o (LB – HOU): 3% rostered in Yahoo leagues
To’oTo’o played 99 percent of the snaps in Week 1, racking up two solos, four assists, one sack, one tackle for loss, and one pass defended. To’oTo’o played an every snap role next to Azeez Al-Shaair, while E.J. Speed and Christian Harris played five and eight percent of the snaps, respectively. Henry needs to be universally rostered as long as he remains ahead of Speed and Harris. There is considerable risk here, so plan your FAAB bids accordingly, but To’oTo’o is a top-25 play as long as he is an everydown player.
Christian Rozeboom (LB – CAR): 4% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Rozeboom was locked in in Week 1, reeling off seven solos and one assist. Rozeboom should have a productive season for the Panthers, especially if gamescript forces the Panthers to deal with a heavy dose of the run. Make the add where needed.
Justin Strnad (LB – DEN): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Strnad showed up in Week 1 to the tune of three solos, two assists, one sack, and one tackle for loss. He got some extra burn with Dre Greenlaw inactive and will continue to provide value as long as the veteran linebacker is sidelined. Tap him as an LB3/flex option as long as Greenlaw is on the mend. Make the add where needed.
Dee Winters (LB – SF): 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Dee Winters looked exceptional on Sunday, flying all over the field and racking up five solos, one assist, and two tackles for loss. Winters looks set to become an LB2 staple in IDP and should be added wherever possible, even if it is just to block a rival manager. Consider him a priority add and a top-25 play for a Week 2 date against the New Orleans Saints.
Mack Wilson (LB – ARI): 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Mack Wilson was solid in Week 1, tallying four solos, four assists, and one tackle for loss. Mack is an LB3 option for Week 2 and beyond and should be added where needed.
Devin Bush (LB – CLE): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Bush played a starter role alongside Carson Schwesinger in Week 1, recording four solos, three assists, and one tackle for loss. Bush played 75 percent of the snaps, while Jerome Baker played 27 percent and Mohamoud Diabate played 17 percent. Diabate was, of course, listed as the starter for much of the offseason and leading into Week 1, so Bush is widely available, even in deeper leagues. Add and start Bush as an LB3 with LB2 upside for Week 2 and beyond.
Matt Milano (LB – BUF): 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Milano was solid in Week 1, racking up four solos and one tackle for loss. Milano has been a steady LB2/3 when healthy, and that figures to be no different this season after he played 88 percent of the snaps in Week 1 to Dorian Williams‘ 33 percent. Add and start Milano as an LB3 for a plus Week 2 matchup against the New York Jets.
Cody Barton (LB – TEN): 6% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Barton was rock solid in Week 1, racking up five solos and four assists. Barton should not want for tackle opportunities on a team that figures to be trailing more often than not and makes for a sneaky LB2 play the rest of the way. Add and start Barton where needed.
Jack Sanborn (LB – DAL): 2% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Sanborn played 76 percent of the snaps in Week 1. He was listed as a backup behind Marist Liufau on the team’s unofficial depth chart in the weeks leading up to the game, so there was some trepidation from IDP managers that led to him being rostered in just two percent of Yahoo leagues. Sanborn was thought to be the favorite to start alongside Kenneth Murray due to his scheme familiarity, but the Week 1 depth chart suggested otherwise. Regardless, Sanborn is now in a position to put up LB2 numbers with good matchups and will be an elite LB3 otherwise. Add Sanborn wherever available.
Defensive Line
Harold Landry (DE/LB – NE): 4% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Harold Landry was elite in Week 1, racking up four solos, one assist, 2.5 sacks, and three tackles for loss. Landry is proving to be a seamless fit back in Mike Vrabel’s defense and should be counted as a top-end DL2 going forward. Make the add wherever available.
Brian Burns (DE/LB – NYG): 5% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Burns was excellent in Week 1, reeling off two solos, four assists, two sacks, and two tackles for loss. Burns is an easy DL1 option and can be counted as an LB2/3 on providers where he only has LB eligibility. Burns should be rostered in all competitive leagues. Make the add where needed.
Byron Young (DE/LB – LAR): 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Young was excellent in Week 1, tallying five solos, four assists, one sack, and one tackle for loss. Young has posted at least 7.5 sacks in both of his seasons in the league and has the talent to crack double digits this season. Young should be rostered in all competitive leagues. Make the add where needed,
Alex Highsmith (DE/LB – PIT): 2% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Highsmith showed up in Week 1, notching five solos, three assists, one sack, and one tackle for loss against Justin Fields and the New York Jets. Highsmith has proven his DL2 wares time and time again and should be treated as one for a plus Week 2 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
Rashan Gary (DE/LB – GB): 5% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Gary was rock solid in Week 1, racking up three solos, four assists, 1.5 sacks, and one tackle for loss. Gary is going to have more freedom than he has seen in his career with Micah Parsons on the field with him, and should be able to finally crack the double digit sack barrier because of it. Treat Gary as a DL2 option for a plus Week 2 matchup against the Washington Commanders.
Ed Oliver (DT – BUF): 2% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Oliver went bananas on national TV to the tune of six solos, one sack, three tackles for loss, and a key forced fumble. Oliver should be rostered in all DT leagues, and as his Week 1 production showed, he should also be rostered as a DL3 option at worst. Tap Oliver as a sneaky DL2 play for a tasty Week 2 matchup against the New York Jets.
Carl Granderson (DE – NO): 4% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Granderson was excellent in Week 1, reeling off five solos, one assist, 1.5 sacks, one tackle for loss, and two passes defended. Granderson is a season removed from an 8.5 sack campaign and has recorded at least 5.5 sacks in each of the last three seasons. Add and start him as a DL3 option for a plus Week 2 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
Quinnen Williams (DT – NYJ): 7% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Quinnen Williams was excellent in Week 1, tallying four solos, one assist, one sack, two tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. Quinnen is an obvious DT1 play but has been productive enough to count as a DL2 option in deeper leagues. Tap him as a DL2/3 for a plus Week 2 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
Will McDonald (DE – NYJ): 3% rostered in Yahoo leagues
McDonald looked good in Week 1, racking up two solos, one assist, two sacks, and two tackles for loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers. McDonald had 10.5 sacks last season and should be counted as an elite DL2 option. He has been productive enough to be in the DL1 conversation before long, so make sure to get him on rosters and in lineups wherever possible.
Isaiah McGuire (DE – CLE): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
McGuire was a standout in Week 1, tallying four solos, two assists, one sack, and two tackles for loss. He played 58 percent of the snaps, operating as the clear starter over Alex Wright. Add and start him as a DL3/4 where needed.
Cam Jordan (DE – NO): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Cam Jordan rolled back the clock in Week 1, recording two solos, one assist, 1.5 sacks, and one assist. Jordan can no longer be counted on to threaten double-digit sacks on a yearly basis, but he can still provide solid value for those in deeper leagues. Treat him as a DL3 option for Week 2 and beyond. Make the add where needed.
Nnamdi Madubuike (DT – BAL): 4% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Nnamdi was excellent in Week 1, racking up four solos, two assists, one sack, and one tackle for loss. Madubuike is one season removed from a DL1 campaign and should be treated as a DT1/DL2 option going forward. Make the add where possible.
George Karlaftis (DE – KC): 3% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Karlaftis was solid in Week 1, racking up two solos, one assist, one sack, and two tackles for loss. Karlaftis had eight sacks last season and looks to be picking up where he left off. He probably won’t give you elite DL2 numbers, but he is still a top-25 option, especially when he has a plus matchup. Treat him as more of a DL3 option for Week 2 against Philadelphia. Make the add where needed.
Malcolm Koonce (DE – LV): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Koonce was solid in Week 1, tallying one solo, two assists, one sack, one tackle for loss, and one forced fumble. Koonce is expected to put up strong numbers this season and should be on radars as a DL3 option. Tyree Wilson stymies his upside due to the two sharing snaps but he should still be rostered in deeper formats. Make the add in competitive leagues.
Jonah Elliss (DE/LB – DEN): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Jonah Elliss showed up in Week 1, recording three solos, one sack, and one tackle for loss. Elliss belongs on radars in 12-team leagues and is worth a stash in deeper formats. Stash him as a DL4 with upside where needed.
Sam Williams (DE – DAL): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Williams played 62 percent of the snaps in Week 1, making him the only Cowboys edge rusher to see over 60 percent of the snaps. Williams has enough talent to work his way into the DL3 conversation, but should be viewed as more of a bench stash for now. Add Williams where needed.
Defensive Back
Talanoa Hufanga (S – DEN): 2% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Talanoa started his Broncos career with a bang, racking up seven solos, three assists, and one forced fumble. Hufanga was flying around the field in his pre-injury form and can now be counted as an elite DB2 who could be back in the DB1 conversation in a few weeks. Make the add everywhere.
Chamarri Conner (CB/S – TB): 3% rostered in Yahoo leagues
So much for being listed as a backup, Chamarri was excellent in his nickel slot on Friday and looks set for another strong season after his Week 1 performance of seven solos, three assists, and one forced fumble. Tap Conner as a DB2 option going forward.
Tykee Smith (S/CB – TB): 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Tykee was excellent in Week 1, reeling off seven solos, four assists, and one pass defended. He remains a DB3 option but could enter the top-25 conversation if he can show some consistency. Tykee is a name to stash on benches where possible. Add and start him as a DB3 option for a plus Week 2 matchup against the Houston Texans.
Kam Curl (S – LAR): 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Curl was excellent in Week 1, racking up eight solos and two assists, reminding the IDP world of his top-15 upside. Curl looked comfortable in Week 1 and may be ready to produce to the level we expected of him when he came over from Washington. Treat him as a DB2 for Week 2, but he has certain DB1 upside, making him one of the top targets at the position where available.
Jaylinn Hawkins (S – NE): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Jaylinn was excellent in Week 1, reeling off five solos, one sack, two tackles for loss, one interception, and one pass defended. Hawkins can be viewed as a DB2 option where needed, but it is better to count him as a DB3 for now. Make the add where needed.
Isaiah Pola-Mao (S – LV): 5% rostered in Yahoo leagues
IPM was excellent in Week 1, racking up five solos, two assists, one tackle for loss, one interception, and one pass defended. IPM remains a DB3 option, but productive weeks like this can make him a solid DB2 option for the bye weeks.
Jourdan Lewis (CB – JAC): 2% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Jourdan was excellent in Week 1, racking up three solos, two assists, one forced fumble, one interception, and one pass defended. Lewis jumped from the CB2 ranks to the CB1 radar with this outing and makes for a solid deep league add in DB leagues. Tap him as a DB3/4 option where needed for a plus Week 2 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Jarvis Brownlee (CB – TEN): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Brownlee showed up in Week 1, reeling off six solos, three assists, two tackles for loss, and two passes defended. Brownlee played 99 percent of the snaps and should be a solid CB3 with DB2 upside, and should be on the radar in deeper DB formats. Make the add where needed.
Devon Witherspoon (CB – SEA): 7% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Witherspoon was excellent in Week 1, racking up seven solos, one assist, and one tackle for loss. Witherspoon is a CB1, hence his rostership numbers, but outings like this serve to remind us why he remains part of the DB2 conversation. Make the add where needed.
Kyu Blu Kelly (CB – LV): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Kyu is more of a deep league or CB league special, but his Week 1 performance puts him on the radar in DB leagues, too. Kyu Blu racked up seven solos, two assists, and one pass defended in Week 1 and could become fantasy relevant in all formats if he can keep up the high-level production. Add and start Kyu where needed.
Tre’von Moehrig (S – CAR): 8% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Moehrig looked good in Week 1, posting seven solos and four assists against Jacksonville. Moehrig is still a DB3/4, but games like this remind us of his upside. Add and start him as a DB3 option where needed.
Javon Bullard (S/CB – GB): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Bullard shone in the nickel role on Sunday, reeling off seven solos and two assists. Safeties in the nickel role are known to be strong IDP contributors, and Bullard looks like he will be no different, especially in this defense. Treat him as a DB3 for now, but he has the chance to work his way into the DB2 conversation with some consistency. Make the add where needed.
Minkah Fitzpatrick (S – MIA): 9% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Minkah had a strong first game back with the Dolphins, even if the team didn’t. He posted six solos, three assists, and one pass defended and was one of the bright spots on a defense that looks like it finally has some healthy pieces (even if it didn’t look good in Week 1). Make the add where needed.
Chuck Clark (S – PIT): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Clark started the season strong for the Steelers, racking up six solos, two assists, and one tackle for loss. He should settle in as one of the better DB3 options who can serve as a DB2 during the byes. Add Clark where needed.
Craig Woodson (S – NE): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Craig Woodson was excellent in Week 1, tallying five solos, two assists, and one tackle for loss while playing every snap for the Patriots. His ascension to the starting lineup has left Kyle Dugger with scraps (11 percent of the snaps), which shows us how highly Mike Vrabel thinks of Woodson. Add and start Woodson as a DB3 with DB2 value.
A.J. Terrell (CB – ATL): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Terrell won’t see enough work most weeks to sniff six solos and two assists, but this serves as a reminder that, in addition to being a CB1, Terrell can double as a DB3 option in DB leagues. Add Terrell where needed in deeper, competitive formats.
Xavier Watts (S – ATL): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Watts showed up in Week 1, reeling off six solos and two assists. Watts played every snap for the Falcons and can be counted as a DB3 option for Week 2 and beyond. His Week 1 performance shows he has the upside to enter the DB2 ranks, so don’t gloss over his name in deeper formats. Make the add where needed.
Marques Sigle (S – SF): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Sigle was excellent in Week 1, tallying five solos, one assist, and one fumble recovery. Sigle played an every snap role next to Jason Pinnock and should continue to be a valuable IDP contributor. Sigle can be counted as a DB3 with intriguing DB2 upside. Make the add where possible in all competitive leagues.
Jason Pinnock (S – SF): 0% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Pinnock played ahead of Ji’Ayir Brown in Week 1, tallying four solos and one assist. He played every snap for the 49ers and will be a DB3 option as long as he continues to do so. He should be rostered in competitive leagues. Make the add where needed.
Coby Bryant (S – SEA): 1% rostered in Yahoo leagues
Coby Bryant was excellent in Week 1, racking up six solos and two assists. Bryant played every snap next to Julian Love and is listed ahead of Ty Okada on the depth chart, not rookie starter in waiting Nick Emmanwori. It remains to be seen when Emmanwori will ascend to the starting lineup, but the Week 1 snap count suggests that it will not be anytime soon. We can worry about who he will actually replace when the time comes. Bryant is a DB3 with DB2 upside as long as he is starting. Make the add where available.
