Smash Spots
Jacob deGrom (SP – TEX) vs. SDP
Jacob deGrom continues to show that he’s still one of the best pitchers in baseball. In a home start against an ice-cold Padres lineup, look for him to go at least six innings with seven-strikeout upside.
Bryan Woo (SP – SEA) vs. BAL
You always have to love firing up Bryan Woo at home at a pitcher-friendly park like T-Mobile Park, especially against an Orioles offense that can be prone to strikeouts.
Jesus Luzardo (SP – PHI) vs. MIA
Jesus Luzardo can be infuriating with his random blowup starts, but when he’s on, he’s as good as any pitcher in baseball. I like his chances of a strong outing against the Marlins.
Risky Starts
Kevin Gausman (SP – TOR) @ CHC
Firing up a pitcher against the Cubs is always risky because you never know what the weather is going to be like. If it’s windy at Wrigley, it can easily turn into a slugfest.
Drew Rasmussen (SP – TBR) @ LAD
Drew Rasmussen just absolutely dominated the Red Sox, putting up a career-high 13 strikeouts, but it’s going to be much tougher against the Dodgers.
Shane McClanahan (SP – TBR) @ LAD
Shane McClanahan has exceeded even the most optimistic expectations coming off such a lengthy absence due to injury, but it’s hard to trust him versus the Dodgers.
Two-Start Pitchers
Zack Wheeler (SP – PHI) vs. MIA, vs. NYM
Like Shane McClanahan, Zack Wheeler has exceeded expectations coming off injury, looking almost like his former self. I love his two home matchups against the Marlins and the Mets.
Gerrit Cole (SP – NYY) vs. CWS, vs. CIN
Yet another pitcher who has been rock-solid since returning from injury. Gerrit Cole struggled versus the Guardians in his last turn, but he should get back on track in a two-start week against the White Sox and Reds.
Shota Imanaga (SP – CHC) vs. COL, @ SEA
Shota Imanaga got back on track against the Rockies after a couple of blow-up starts. I think he’ll build on that in a rematch versus the Rockies and another at T-Mobile Park.
