Smash Spots
Bryce Miller (SP – SEA) vs. LAA
Bryce Miller looks like a completely new pitcher for the Mariners. His velocity is up, he’s putting up an elite strikeout rate and he’s limiting walks. We just saw him rack up 11 strikeouts versus the Pirates. Up next is a smash spot versus the Angels.
Zack Wheeler (SP – PHI) vs. PIT
It’s been a remarkable return to action for Zack Wheeler. While his strikeouts are down from before, he’s still shown the ability to provide elite ratios. This is what happens when you’re dealing with a veteran pitcher — they can overcome a loss of velocity.
Dylan Cease (SP – TOR) @ SEA
Dylan Cease has lived up to the hype for the Blue Jays, racking up strikeouts at a high rate. Next up is a start at a pitcher-friendly ballpark, taking on a strikeout-prone Mariners team.
Risky Starts
Jose Soriano (SP – LAA) @ SEA
It feels like Jose Soriano‘s dominant start to the season happened ages ago. He’s been pitching poorly lately, with major control issues. It’s hard to trust him right now, but the matchup at Seattle is good on paper.
Brandon Woodruff (SP – MIL) @ ARI
Brandon Woodruff was dominant in his return to action, racking up 10 strikeouts in six innings of one-run ball against the Reds. But the Diamondbacks can be pesky, especially at home.
Landen Roupp (SP – SFG) @ ARI
Landen Roupp is coming off a rock-solid outing at home against the Athletics, but the Diamondbacks are tough at home, so this could be a shorter outing than usual.
Two-Start Pitchers
Parker Messick (SP – CLE) vs. TEX, vs. CWS
Parker Messick has been an ace for the Guardians this season. Expect him to turn in two quality outings with high strikeout upside against the Rangers and the White Sox.
Tanner Bibee (SP – CLE) vs. TEX, vs. CWS
Tanner Bibee has been on a roll, eating innings and providing solid ratios. He’s clearly in a nice rhythm right now, so it’s a good idea to ride the wave, especially against the Rangers and the White Sox.
Gage Jump (SP – ATH) vs. LAD, vs. MIA
Gage Jump is exceeding expectations as a rookie, coming off a dominant outing against the Giants. While it’s always risky to start a pitcher versus the Dodgers, his next matchup against the Marlins is quite appealing.
