- With so many aces on this slate, it’s hard to choose just one. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is coming off a complete game where he allowed two earned runs with seven strikeouts against the New York Yankees. It was his ninth start out of his last 10 outings in which he has scored at least 3o points on FanDuel.
- Sean Burke is awfully close to joining the group of aces himself. Home runs can be a bit of an issue, but he is so hard to hit that it has kept runs off the board. In his last 10 starts, Burke has a 2.43 ERA with 74 strikeouts in only 59.1 innings. Just like Yamamoto, nine of his last 10 starts have gone over 30 points on FanDuel.
- A high-end outcome is always a possibility with Shota Imanaga on the mound. His most recent game showed just that with seven shutout innings and four strikeouts against the Twins. His matchup today is against the Pirates. When he faced them earlier this season, he struck out nine batters over six scoreless innings. His price is much more appealing on DraftKings.

- Ryan Feltner is not one of the aces on this slate. In 14 starts this season, he has a 5.48 ERA, which is right in line with his expected ERA of 5.86 and his FIP of 5.68. It’s not that he has just struggled at Coors Field, as he has a 5.32 ERA in road games as well.
- While Brice Turang only has two home runs this month, it’s actually been his highest OPS month since March and April. That’s because he already has eight doubles this month, so he’s still impacting the ball hard, at least against right-handed pitchers like Feltner. For the season, he has a .920 OPS against righties, and a .571 OPS against lefties.
- Considering how infrequently the Brewers face the Rockies, it was a bit surprising to see the track record of success by Christian Yelich against Feltner. Yelich has faced Feltner 14 times in his career with five hits. Three of those hits have gone for extra bases. He already has one home run in this series.
- Who would have thought that we would ever consider Joey Ortiz in DFS contests? As recently as June 23rd, he was batting .198 with a .528 OPS. In the month since, he has a .319 batting average and a .933 OPS. Notably, most of his turnaround has come since being shifted to third base with the debut of Cooper Pratt.

- Andre Pallante is starting today for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Reds. He’s a bit of an enigma to choose against in DFS contests. Because he gets so many ground balls (55% rate), he doesn’t give up many home runs (only 10 all season). Yet, he allows a lot of hits (102 in 105 innings), which can lead to earned runs.
- Any Reds stack has to begin with Elly De La Cruz. While he hits for more power against left-handed pitchers, a .772 OPS against right-handed pitchers is certainly not bad. He continues to hit the ball as hard as anyone with a 51.5% hard-hit rate and a 14.8% barrel rate.
- Make sure that Nathaniel Lowe is in the lineup today before you lock him into your DFS lineups. Given his previous success against Pallante, he should be. Lowe has gone 4-for-11 against Pallante in his career with a pair of home runs.
- Because he hasn’t played every day, it’s been easy to overlook how good Tyler Stephenson has been since June. In the 32 games since June 1st, he’s batting .317 with an .866 OPS. Exactly half of his extra-base hits and home runs have come since June 1st.
Core Studs
- Kyle Schwarber has a matchup against left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers today. Schwarber has faced Weathers six times before in his career, recording three hits. All three of those hits have gone for extra bases, with two of them being home runs.
- Hunter Goodman’s matchup today is against left-handed pitcher Robert Gasser. Goodman can hit home runs against any handed pitcher, but has a .934 OPS against left-handed pitchers and an .875 against right-handed pitchers. Today’s game is a road matchup. In an odd twist, Goodman continues to be better in road games (.970 OPS) than home games (.815 OPS).
- The Orioles were close to being a suggested lineup stack against Bryce Elder. Since the start of June, he has an ERA over 7.00, with a nearly matching 6.68 FIP. This could also be Pete Alonso, but we’re going to save a bit of money and go with Taylor Ward. His profile has changed substantially from a slugger to an on-base machine who leads the American League in walks. In his last 10 games, Ward has three extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs, so perhaps we’re starting to see a bit of the slugger return.
Value Plays/Punts
- As expected, Kyle Karros has been better in home games than road games, but not as much as you would think. His OPS in road games is still a respectable .759. He’s hit four home runs already in July.
- Joc Pederson has a matchup today against Bryan Woo. Typically that’s a matchup we would try to avoid, but there are so many great pitchers that it’s hard to avoid all of them. Plus, Woo has been shockingly bad on the road with a 6.28 ERA. Sixteen of Pederson’s 17 home runs have come against right-handed pitchers like Woo.
- Dominic Canzone has a matchup against right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi. Twenty-seven of his 29 extra-base hits have come against right-handed pitchers this season. Eovaldi has also struggled with the home run ball this season. He’s already allowed 22 in 115 innings.
Sunday’s Top 3 Underdog Player Props
CJ Abrams is taking on rookie starting pitcher Mitch Bratt. Bratt has only pitched 10.2 innings with a 5.06 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 7.42 FIP, showing how much he has really struggled. Someone who hasn’t struggled is Abrams. He has cleared this number in his last five games.
Casey Mize has a 25.6% strikeout rate this season. It’s over 3% higher than the second-best mark he’s had in his career. He’s exceeded 4.5 strikeouts in four of his past five starts. The Royals can be a difficult team to strike out, but have a 22.2% strikeout rate in July.
If there was one player who needed the All-Star break, it was Drake Baldwin. He had a .154/.252/.220 triple slash line in the 24 games going into the All-Star break. In the last seven days, he has a triple slash line of .398/.485/.821. He’s cleared this number in six of his last eight games.
