George Klassen has control issues in major league debut Sunday

by David Leisering | Angels Correspondent | Sun, Apr 5th 11:40pm EDT

George Klassen lasted just 2.2 innings in his major league debut on Sunday after allowing two runs on three hits while walking five and striking out four. The Angels went on to defeat the Mariners, 8-7, in 11 innings.

Fantasy Impact:

Klassen started on short notice Sunday as Ryan Johnson was scratched from his scheduled start due to an illness. The top pitching prospect in the Angels' organization, Klassen showed off his electric stuff, but struggled with his command to the tune of five walks in 2.2 innings. The 24-year-old posted a 6.43 ERA over 14 innings during the spring, missing out on the Angels' Opening Day roster. Klassen has struck out 274 batters in 206.1 career minor league innings, but has also walked 93 batters and hit 10 more over his three minor league seasons. Klassen is going to need to work on his command issues before he sticks around in the big league rotation.
