Caleb Thielbar pitches perfect ninth for first save Saturday

by David Leisering | Cubs Correspondent | Sun, Apr 19th 1:07am EDT

Caleb Thielbar pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts to convert his first save of the season in a 4-2 Cubs' win over the Mets on Saturday.

Fantasy Impact:

Thielbar was given the first save opportunity with Daniel Palencia (oblique) on the shelf and he made quick work of the Mets, throwing 11 of his 14 pitches for strikes. The veteran lefty is 1-2 with a 2.57 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP while striking out 10 batters in seven innings this season. Thielbar appears to be the favorite for save chances while Palencia is on the injured list. Ben Brown, who bridged the gap between Jameson Taillon and Thielbar on Saturday, would likely be next in line for save opportunities.
