Burnes underwent Tommy John surgery in June 2025. He faced hitters for the first time on May 29 but experienced discomfort following the session and was diagnosed with a teres major strain, forcing him to be shut down. The Diamondbacks are expected to provide an update on his recovery plan once they receive the MRI results.
