FanDuel NBA Value Plays: Thursday (3/30)

FanDuel NBA Value Plays: Thursday (3/30)

There are five games on the FanDuel main slate tonight. After last night’s monster game by Russell Westbrook, it will be interesting to see if James Harden responds with a similar game as he is in the midst of the MVP race. LeBron James and Jimmy Butler are two of the other stars that will be in action as their teams face off against each other.

Here are 10 players that could meet or exceed 5X value, freeing up salary as you construct your roster. As always, pay close attention to the news, especially an hour before lineups lock. Just like I do with my own lineups, decipher the information available and make the best decisions you can make for the contest(s) you enter.

POINT GUARD

Ish Smith (DET): $5,300 vs. BKN
It looks like Reggie Jackson will be shut down for the season. As long as he is out, Smith is a very strong play even though he has gone up in price considerably. In the last two games that Jackson has been out, he has hit 6.6X value with 29.6 and 30.7 FanDuel points. Additionally, he has averaged 33 MPG in those two games. Last week, Smith went for 38.4 FanDuel points against the Brooklyn Nets.

Kris Dunn (MIN): $3,900 vs. LAL
In the last three games, Dunn has averaged 30 MPG and 28.5 FanDuel points. Those are pretty good numbers for a near min priced player going against the Lakers at home. This bump in both minutes and production has not been because Ricky Rubio has been out. Last year’s No. 5 draft pick is the future and they are finally giving him opportunities both as Rubio’s backup and playing alongside him. This past Friday, he earned 32.4 FanDuel in Los Angeles against the Lakers.

SHOOTING GUARD

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (DET): $4,700 vs. BKN
Your guess is as good as mine on KCP. I never seem to get him right, but he does have nice upside if you can figure out which night it will be. The Nets are terrible defensively, and last week he earned 27.3 FanDuel points at Brooklyn. He also had 31.4 in a November matchup against the Nets. He is averaging nearly 22 FanDuel points in his last six games. Two of those were in the 30’s and three of them were below 15, so buyer beware. You will be playing James Harden so you only need one other player. KCP is as good as anyone if you are entering a GPP.

J.J. Redick (LAC): $4,300 at PHO
Phoenix is a definite pace-up situation and Redick’s price doesn’t reflect his big game last night. He had 31.5 FanDuel points against the Wizards. In the last 10 games, he has averaged 22.3 FanDuel points.  He has scored double figures in all but one of those games. He has upside, especially against Phoenix, which he had 25.9 FanDuel points back in February.

SMALL FORWARD

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (BKN): $4,900 at DET
I keep waiting for RHJ to come back down to earth, but he has had 30+ FanDuel points in four straight games. Since he is a Brooklyn Net, that means that he doesn’t play much. He only had 10.8 FanDuel points last week against Detroit. I cannot guarantee he will continue to reach value, but on a five-game slate, riding the hot hand is not the worst thing that you can do.

Paul Zipser (CHI): $3,700 vs. CLE
He has earned 20+ FanDuel points in three of the last four games. He doesn’t have a lot of upside and can drop a dud. Zipser is not a very attractive option, but unless we get some news today, he might be the best value option in this price range. This is a position that I plan on playing two of the higher priced options rather than looking for value.

POWER FORWARD

Gorgui Dieng (MIN): $5,200 vs. LAL
Dieng has hit 30+ FanDuel points in his last three games, including 30.7 at LA last Friday. In the last five games, he has averaged 37.2 MPG and 27.7 FanDuel points. This will be a pace-up game for Minnesota and the Lakers are not good defensively. He is a good bet to reach value or exceed value tonight.

Larry Nance, Jr. (LAL): $4,100 at MIN
His minutes have spiked up recently as he has averaged 29 MPG in the last three games, compared to 16 MPG in the three previous games. In the last three games, he has averaged 22.8 FanDuel points. He earned 26.9 FanDuel points against Minnesota last week.

CENTER

Clint Capela (HOU): $5,600 at POR
Capela is a pretty solid bet to reach value as he has hit at least 4.7X value in 14 of his last 16 games. He has averaged 29.8 FanDuel points in his last five games. During that same stretch of games, he has averaged 14.0 PPG, 9.2 RPG, 1.4 BPG while shooting 73% from the field.

Ivica Zubac (LAL): $4,400 at MIN
This will be a tough matchup for Zubac. Minnesota has a strong interior defense, and Zubac only earned 13.1 FanDuel points against the Timberwolves last week. Other than the dud against Minnesota, Zubac has been performing very well. Even with that game last week against Minnesota, he has averaged 23.3 FanDuel points in the last 10 games.
