Fantasy Football Week 3: By The Numbers

Week 3 was much more fun than Week 2, and it also came with significantly fewer injuries. Please don’t tell the Saquon Barkley owners that I said that.

There was one number that popped up a lot more than usual this week, and I actually had to start glossing over stats including it because it was getting out of control. It’s very obvious what it is below, but here are some fun facts about that number. Come for the fantasy football, leave with some obscure trivia knowledge. How about that?

This week’s premier number which, again, you’ll notice very clearly, is all of the following: a symbol of completion, a “superior highly composite” number, central to many systems of timekeeping, the largest number with a single-syllable name in English, and the number of cranial nerves in the human body. Check that out.

Okay, if you’re still with me, here is your Week 3 by the numbers.

One
The number of targets and receptions for Calvin Ridley in Week 3. I actually hadn’t noticed Ridley’s lack of involvement until sitting down to write this piece. He is still the receiver I prefer after Julio Jones, but Mohamed Sanu did catch all six of his targets for 75 yards.

1.2
Sony Michel’s Yards Per Attempt (YPA) on Sunday against the Jets, posting 11 yards on nine carries. If it feels like deja vu, Michel had 15 attempts for 14 yards in Week 1, which, technically, is worse than the 1.2 in Week 3. Can we consider that progress? He’s still scoring touchdowns, but the rushing inefficiency combined with the lack of receiving game presence (zero receptions on one target in three games) would have me very concerned as a Michel owner.

Two
The number of times I screamed at my television when the Bears threw the ball from inside the Redskins’ ten-yard line and scored. David Montgomery was criminally underutilized until the final drive, and I am still unwell as a result. His involvement on the final drive was encouraging, but it’s hard to reconcile his lack of usage in a blowout until then.

Five
The most targets that anyone had on the Vikings, shared by Adam Thielen and Dalvin Cook. The Vikings have seemingly morphed into a run-first, run-second, run-third-ish team, and it’s been tough for anyone not named Cook. I wouldn’t expect a massive improvement this week against the Bears, either.

Twelve
The number of carries that Jamaal Williams had on Sunday which, you guessed it, led the team. Aaron Jones saved his fantasy day with two scores, but he only posted 19 rushing yards on ten carries versus 59 rushing yards on 12 carries from Williams. Williams also out-snapped Jones 61% to 39%. It looks like we’re going to do this situation all over again. Yippee!

Twelve (again)
The number of targets that both Corey Davis and Stefon Diggs have through Week 3, an average of four per week. I still believe in Diggs’ ability and potential moving forward, but Davis is barely holding onto a bench spot for me at this point.

Twelve (again!)
The number of targets that Nelson Agholor had in Week 3 (take that, Corey Davis). Agholor is the clear number one receiver with Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson injured, and he flashed with 80 yards and two touchdowns.

Twelve (againnnnnnnnnnn!)
The target totals for both Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp. Both Rams receivers racked up over 100 receiving yards, while Kupp added two touchdowns himself. Robert Woods was the odd man out, posting three receptions on eight targets, but you should still feel confident using any parts of this trio moving forward.

Thirteen
The number of receptions from Darren Waller, and I’m firmly endorsing him as a stud tight end at this point. He has no fewer than six receptions in any game this season, and he finally erupted in Week 3 with 134 yards.

21
The amount of touches that Kerryon Johnson had in Week 3, which translated to a whopping 43 scrimmage yards. His day was also saved by a TD, but here’s to hoping the Lions start utilizing him in the passing game at an absolute minimum.

154, 183, and 190
The receiving yards posted by Tyler Lockett, Keenan Allen, and Mike Evans on Sunday, respectively. Lockett recorded one touchdown, while Allen had two, and Evans grabbed three. They all absolutely erupted. That is all.

90%
Devonta Freeman’s snap percentage in Week 3. That’s more like it!

92%
Devin Smith’s snap percentage, which led the Cowboys. Smith seemingly moved into the void left by Michael Gallup and saw five targets that unfortunately only led to two receptions for 39 yards. Regardless, keep a pulse on Smith while Gallup is out.
