Bernie Pleskoff’s Fantasy Baseball Catcher Rankings (2020)

Welcome to the official kickoff of my fantasy baseball position rankings.

These catcher rankings are based upon this scout’s best projections for the coming season.

Remember, fantasy baseball is a combination of skill, research, and luck. A fantasy team owner loses control when a player is injured. A fantasy team owner gains control when the owner is prepared for injury or poor performance. That’s why having a deep and flexible roster is key.

Extra Bases

  • Twins C Willians Astudillo would figure in the top 20 on this list if we knew he could make the club’s roster. That is far from certain at this point in the spring. Monitor that situation closely, because he can hit. He will also offer position flexibility.
  • Chance Sisco might beat out Pedro Severino in Baltimore. Neither is particularly attractive as a fantasy option.
  • Yan Gomes and Kurt Suzuki will likely each see playing time in Washington. Be careful with Washington’s catchers.
  • Caution is required with Salvador Perez. He has missed so much time due to his horrific injury. We don’t know as yet how he will respond in his return.
  • Jorge Alfaro is hampered by a tough home run park, but he can hit.

Improving

Jorge Alfaro, Francisco Mejia, Austin Romine

Declining

Roberto Perez, Yadier Molina
