Fantasy Football QB1 Primer: Week 15 (2021)

Fantasy football is generally supposed to be fun. But I understand if you haven’t been having much fun over the past week.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 has been the biggest storyline of the week. The Raiders-Browns game has been postponed from Saturday to Monday. And reports are Sunday’s games involving the Seahawks and Rams and Eagles and Washington Football Team will be moved to Tuesday.

All of this throws a gigantic monkey wrench into what’s already a stressful time for fantasy football players. So my overarching advice is to do your best and be as flexible as possible. Also, I’d encourage all fantasy commissioners to be flexible, especially with those in playoff games, so that we can take as much control of these outcomes as possible.

With that being said, I’ll do my best to give you viable options at quarterback for Week 15.

Week 15 Mid-Range Passers with QB1 Upside

Aaron Rodgers (QB – GB): ECR QB6

Rodgers should have his way with a Baltimore secondary that’s battered with injuries and has given up 18 fantasy points per game to opposing QBs.

Matthew Stafford (QB – SEA): ECR QB9

This game is now scheduled to be played Tuesday, which means you’ll have to sweat out your matchup another day if you’ve got Stafford. However, he could pay big dividends against a Seahawks defense that gave up over 300 passing yards to Davis Mills.

Tua Tagovailoa (QB – MIA): ECR QB12

Anyone playing against this Jets defense is a viable starting QB option. In the last meeting between the Dolphins and Jets, Tua threw for 271 yards and two scores. He could be in store for a similar if a not better day.

Russell Wilson (QB – SEA): ECR QB15

I’m amazed Wilson is ranked this low by the experts. I was encouraged by what I saw from him last week, albeit against Houston. But we just needed to see Wilson make some throws, and we got that. While the Rams could get Jalen Ramsey back from the COVID list, this secondary isn’t all that impressive otherwise.

Streaming Options

Jimmy Garoppolo (QB – SF): ECR QB14

Garoppolo will go against a generous Falcons secondary that’s given up 20.6 fantasy points per game to opposing QBs. He’s not pretty, but he’s worth a shot as an upside streamer.

Ben Roethlisberger (QB – PIT): ECR QB17

You know it’s an ugly week for streaming options when Big Ben cracks the list. However, I like Roethlisberger’s matchup against a Tennessee secondary that’s giving up 18.6 fantasy points per game to opposing QBs. There’s an upside, believe it or not.

Justin Fields (QB – CHI): ECR QB16

Fields gets a Minnesota defense that’s given up the sixth-most yards, the fourth-most passing TDs, and the fourth-most fantasy points per game to opposing passers. His mobility also gives him a safer floor than other options on the waiver wire.
