Fantasy Baseball Prospects to Stash

I won’t hit on every prospect every week, but will focus on the most relevant prospects throughout the week and will follow up with other notable players. This article will not focus on any AAAA-type players or veterans in the Minors who have outlived their prospect status.

NOTE: Rookie status is determined by 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched at the Major League level. All stats up-to-date as of Sunday, April 6th.

Full Top 150 Prospect Rankings:

AAA Hitters

2. Roman Anthony (OF – BOS)

  • 2024 AA/AAA: .291/.396/.498 | 14.6 BB%, 23.5 K% | 54 XBH, 18 HR, 21 SB
  • This Week: 4/20 | 3 XBH, 2 HR, 1 SB
  • Age: 21
  • ETA: Mid 2025
  • fScores: 98 fContact, 129 fDiscipline, 97 fPower, 117 fSpeed
  • Comp: Jarred Kelenic with a better eye
  • Prime Skills: Roman Anthony has good vision with a strong power tool for a young kid who still needs to fill out. He could be a five-tool player, but he needs to be more consistent on the base paths for steals to be a big part of his game long term. The max and 90th percentile exit velocities rate out a little better than Dominguez (112.5 and 108.4, respectively), but he is not nearly as aggressive in the zone and might have a little bit of a Lars Nootbaar streak to him.
  • Player Notes: Anthony continued where he left off, power-wise, after the strong spring.

7. Samuel Basallo (C, 1B – BAL)

  • 2024 AA/AAA: .278/.341/.449 | 8.6 BB%, 21.1 K% | 44 XBH, 19 HR, 10 SB
  • This Week: 5/20 | 2 XBH, 2 HR, 0 SB
  • Age: 20
  • ETA: Mid 2026
  • fScores: 93 fContact, 80 fDiscipline, 100 fPower, 84 fSpeed
  • Comp: Kyle Schwarber with a better hit tool
  • Prime Skills: Solid plate discipline and great power and young for his level, Samuel Basallo has seen some regression on the batted ball data, as he has not been lifting the ball in the air enough to reach his power potential. He’s been dinged in the plate skills category, seeing a decent increase in swinging strike and strikeout rate, while also seeing an even larger decrease in walk rate. The dude is built for his age with fast hands, but a tight/weird batting stance. He will likely move off the catcher position full-time because of Adley Rutschman.
  • Player Notes: Basallo hit a monster homer and has continued to show improved power this season.

16. Nick Kurtz (1B – ATH)

  • 2024 College: .306/.531/.763 | 34 XBH, 22 HR, 4 SB
  • 2024 A/AA: .368/.520/.763 | 24 BB%, 20 K% | 7 XBH, 4 HR, 1 SB
  • This Week: 9/23 | 5 XBH, 3 HR, 0 SB (+1 on Sunday – not included here)
  • Age: 22
  • ETA: Early 2025
  • fScores: 106 fContact, 129 fDiscipline, 115 fPower, 86 fSpeed
  • Comp: Joey Votto-esque profile
  • Prime Skills: Nick Kurtz has big-time plate skills with above-average power and a very solid hit tool. Think Kyle Manzardo with more power and a higher ceiling on the hit tool. He was a beast in his limited debut and returned in the Arizona Fall League from a hamstring injury.
  • Player Notes: Kurtz has been the best hitter in the Minors to start the season. He should be up sooner rather than later if the Athletics want to compete this season.

20. Jordan Lawlar (SS – ARI)

  • 2024 AA/AAA: .318/.417/.485 | 9 XBH, 2 HR, 6 SB (23 games)
  • Age: 22
  • This Week: 8/29 | 3 XBH, 0 HR, 4 SB
  • ETA: Opening Day (debuted in 2024)
  • fScores: 100 fContact, 104 fDiscipline, 93 fPower, 168 fSpeed
  • Comp: Trea Turner-lite with some Derek Jeter
  • Prime Skills: Jordan Lawlar has a nice power swing, but it may impact his contact ability in the Majors. He has all fields power and ridiculous speed; he’s a very aggressive base runner and puts himself in good positions to make things happen on top of having way-above-average plate discipline for his age.
  • Player Notes: Lawlar has been showing some nice speed, but Tim Tawa got the call over him after the Ketel Marte injury as he continues to play multiple positions in the Minors.

35. Marcelo Mayer (SS – BOS)

  • 2024 AA: .307/.370/.480 | 9 BB%, 19.7 K% | 36 XBH, 8 HR, 13 SB (77 games)
  • This Week: 8/30 | 2 XBH, 2 HR, 1 SB
  • Age: 22
  • ETA: Late 2025
  • fScores: 99 fContact, 86 fDiscipline, 86 fPower, 116 fSpeed
  • Comp: Lefty Dansby Swanson with more doubles power/less home run power
  • Prime Skills: Marcelo Mayer has fast hands and good vision, leading to an advanced batting average profile, but how much power will he hit for in his prime? He’s had some bad injury luck that’s impacted his stat line two seasons in a row now.
  • Player Notes: Mayer has been showing some nice power to start the season. Let’s see if it carries along with the health in 2025.

59. Kyle Teel (C – CWS)

  • 2024 AA: .288/.386/.433 | 13.5 BB%, 23 K% | 36 XBH, 13 HR, 12 SB
  • This Week: 8/30 | 4 XBH, 2 HR, 1 SB
  • Age: 23
  • ETA: Mid 2025
  • fScores: 97 fContact, 124 fDiscipline, 69 fPower, 96 fSpeed
  • Comp: Shades of Buster Posey with less power
  • Prime Skills: Kyle Teel is an athletic catcher with an above-average hit tool. He gets some comps to J.T. Realmuto, but I think he is more of a high-average hitter who will get on base than the primarily power/speed threat of Realmuto. He gets to decent enough exit velocities to raise his power profile as he ages.
  • Player Notes: Teel is off to a nice start, as is Edgar Quero. It will be interesting to see what the White Sox do with both of these catchers. It should be noted that Teel has played four games at designated hitter to start the season and four at catcher.

120. Brady House (3B – WSH)

  • 2024 AA/AAA: .241/.297/.402 | 5.7 BB%, 26.4 K% | 41 XBH, 19 HR, 6 SB
  • This Week: 9/26 | 3 XBH, 1 HR, 0 SB
  • Age: 22
  • ETA: Mid 2025
  • fScores: 92 fContact, 48 fDiscipline, 79 fPower, 82 fSpeed
  • Comp: Alec Bohm with worse plate skills
  • Prime Skills: Brady House has a big frame with room to grow at 6-foot-4. He has completely moved off shortstop to third base this season. He has shown a ton of improvement in the plate skills and has a ton of power potential that has yet to play out. He is pretty good at going the other way. He reminds me a ton of Austin Riley coming up, where everyone liked him, then nobody liked him and then everyone liked him again.
  • Player Notes: This is a nice start for House after a terrible 2024 season.

140. Jace Jung (2B, 3B – DET)

  • 2024 AAA: .258/.380/.461 | 16.5 BB%, 22.1 K% | 40 XBH, 15 HR, 3 SB
  • 2024 MLB: .241/.362.304 | 18 BB%, 30.9 K% | 5 XBH, 0 HR, 0 SB
  • This Week: 9/28 | 5 XBH, 2 HR, 0 SB
  • Age: 23
  • ETA: Opening Day (debuted 2024)
  • fScores: 91 fContact, 128 fDiscipline, 89 fPower, 61 fSpeed
  • Comp: Nolan Gorman meets Josh Jung’s swing with better plate skills and less power
  • Prime Skills: The pull power is legit. Jace Jung’s swing reminds me a ton of Nolan Gorman, and his approach is very similar to his brother Josh. All things look good for success, except that he will have to hit in Detroit.
  • Player Notes: Jace Jung had a strong start after not making the Opening Day roster. He should be up sooner rather than later. It looks like the Tigers are trying to get an extra year of control here.

143. Zac Veen (OF – COL)

  • 2024 CPX/A+/AA/AAA: .258/.346/.459 | 11.1 BB%, 24.8 K% | 23 XBH, 11 HR, 21 SB (65 games)
  • This Week: 12/27 | 6 XBH, 1 HR, 1 SB
  • Age: 23
  • ETA: Early/Mid 2025 (Editor’s Note: Veen was called up on April 6th, 2025)
  • fScores: 90 fContact, 87 fDiscipline, 87 fPower, 225 fSpeed
  • Comp: Young Charlie Blackmon with a worse hit tool
  • Prime Skills: Zac Veen has a nice Joe Dirt look going for him, but he’s an aggressive in-the-zone hitter with a ton of speed. He has the body to grow into more power in the future, but right now he’s projecting more as a high average (due to aggressiveness), speed guy. Veen only has a four-degree average launch angle, which is bad and explains the over 50% groundball rates.
  • Player Notes: Veen had a strong spring and is deserving of a call-up to start over Nick Martini.

Notable AAA Hitters Outside the Top 150

Caleb Durbin (2B, SS, 3B – MIL)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 8/30 | 5 XBH, 2 HR, 1 SB
  • Notes: Caleb Durbin had a hot start to the season, which has us asking how much longer until he is called up and starts at third base for the Brewers.

Chase Meidroth (SS, 3B – CWS)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 5/21 | 2 XBH, 2 HR, 2 SB
  • Notes: Chase Meidroth has shown a nice power and speed combo to begin the year, but the hit tool still needs some work.

T.J. Rumfield (1B – NYY)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 10/33 | 5 XBH, 3 HR, 0 SB
  • Notes: If T.J. Rumfield’s power so far this season is for real, he could be a name to watch as he’s always had a solid hit tool.

Otto Kemp (3B – PHI)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 9/31 | 5 XBH, 3 HR, 1 SB
  • Notes: Otto Kemp has the makings of a nice bench, backup piece for the Phillies post Edmundo Sosa.

Max Acosta (SS – MIA)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 11/34 | 2 XBH, 1 HR, 3 SB
  • Notes: The Marlins are big Max Acosta fans and had him hitting third in the Spring Breakout game; he’s a good hitter with a fledgling Bryson Stott-like profile.

Jakob Marsee (OF – MIA)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 4/23 | 1 XBH, 0 HR, 8 SB
  • Notes: It was another rough start for Jakob Marsee at the plate this year, but eight steals in one week is noteworthy.

Jonatan Clase (OF – TOR)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 9/19 | 1 XBH, 0 HR, 5 SB
  • Notes: Jonatan Clase could have made the big club out of spring training, but he’s shown a better hit tool thus far in the season.

Tim Tawa (2B – ARI)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 9/23 | 6 XBH, 3 HR, 2 SB
  • Notes: Tim Tawa is not a big prospect, but he has one of those underrated profiles of a guy that could have a surprisingly strong career.

2024 Fantasy Baseball Closers Depth Charts Handcuffs

AAA Pitchers

40. Zebby Matthews (SP – MIN)

  • 2024 A+/AA/AAA: 97 IP | 28.6 K-BB%, 14.2 SwStr%, 29.9 CSW% | 2.60 ERA, 0.87 WHIP
  • 2024 MLB: 37 2/3 IP | 18.1 K-BB%, 11.3 SwStr%, 26.2 CSW% | 6.69 ERA, 1.65 WHIP
  • This Week: 5 IP | 4 Ks, 0 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.20 WHIP
  • Age: 25
  • ETA: Opening Day (debuted in 2024)
  • fScores: 103 fStuff, 122 fControl, 112 fERA
  • Comp: Zach Eflin outcome with a better fastball
  • Prime Skills: Zebby Matthews is a big righty out of Western Carolina at 6-foot-five and 225 pounds. His curveball is his best weapon, though he has a decent heater that plays better up in the zone. The control is his best attribute as the dude has only walked 18 hitters on the entire season.
  • Player Notes: Matthews is off to a good start as he and David Festa are showing they deserve to be Major League starters now.

55. Jacob Misiorowski (SP – MIL)

  • 2024 AA: 97 1/3 IP | 16.1 K-BB%, 14.1 SwStr%, 30.7 CSW% | 3.33 ERA, 1.20 WHIP
  • This Week: 8 2/3 IP (2 starts) | 11 Ks, 7 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.92 WHIP
  • Age: 23
  • Comp: Young Tyler Glasnow with worse control
  • ETA: Early 2025
  • fScores: 108 fStuff, 88 fControl, 135 fERA (as a starter)
  • Prime Skills: Jacob Misiorowski has a killer fastball; he throws it 101 and it’s at an odd arm angle, so it’s difficult to pick up with an elite slider in his pocket as well. He’s had some control issues, especially as a starter, but once he shifted to the pen in AAA, he became a beast.
  • Player Notes: Misiorowski has had a very strong start despite not making strides in the command department. Can the Brewers afford for him to move to the pen with his stuff?

86. Logan Henderson (SP – MIL)

  • 2024 CPX/A+/AA/AAA: 81 1/3 IP | 28.1 K-BB%, 15 SwStr%, 31.6 CSW% | 3.32 ERA, 0.91 WHIP
  • This Week: 9 IP (2 starts) | 16 Ks, 8 BBs | 5.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP
  • Age: 23
  • ETA: Mid 2025
  • fScores: 105 fStuff, 106 fControl, 110 fERA
  • Comp: Spencer Strider-lite
  • Prime Skills: Logan Henderson is of slight build (5-foot-11) and has jumped up a couple of levels already after destroying at Low-A most. He has excellent command and a nice fastball/change-up combo. The fastball runs 94-96 MPH, and is one of the better change-ups in the Minors.
  • Player Notes: Henderson usually has much better command than a walk per inning, but most of the AAA starters have had a rough go with walks to start the season.

94. Cade Horton (SP – CHC)

  • 2024 AA/AAA: 34 1/3 IP | 18.9 K-BB%, 15.3 SwStr%, 29 CSW% | 4.46 ERA, 1.25 WHIP
  • This Week: 3 1/3 IP | 6 Ks, 4 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 1.50 WHIP
  • Age: 22
  • ETA: Early 2025
  • fScores: 93 fStuff, 96 fControl, 100 fERA
  • Comp: Hunter Brown with control and a third pitch
  • Prime Skills: Cade Horton looks like a righty Jon Lester, throwing 98 MPH darts with a nasty curve. He has shown insane command with three plus pitches between the fastball, slider and curveball, and should be moving pretty quickly next up levels due to his well-above-average command.
  • Player Notes: Horton is healthy with some good stuff, but like most of the other top starters in AAA, he has had a tough time with the strike zone.

109. Emiliano Teodo (SP – TEX)

  • 2024 AA: 86 1/3 IP | 16.8 K-BB%, 16.3 SwStr%, 32.2 CSW% | 1.98 ERA, 1.19 WHIP
  • This Week: 5 IP | 7 Ks, 1 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.60 WHIP
  • Age: 24
  • ETA: 2025
  • fScores: 108 fStuff, 87 fControl, 122 fERA
  • Comp: Jared Jones with worse control
  • Prime Skills: Emiliano Teodo has a slight frame, but a big fastball in the high 90s (can hit 102). Could be an assassin in the pen and might run into a pen to rotation back and forth type trajectory due to the command ala DL Hall or Garrett Crochet. He formerly ran with a fastball/curveball, but now mixes in a low 90s change-up and a killer upper 80s slider. The development of the breaking balls is killer, because guys are waiting to blast that fastball and seem to lock up and freeze on the breaking stuff.
  • Player Notes: I figured Teodo could be in line to close, but if he keeps pitching like this, he’s a starter. Love to see the command play up.

117. Carson Whisenhunt (SP – SF)

  • 2024 AAA: 109 2/3 IP | 17.1 K-BB%, 15.3 SwStr%, 29.5 CSW% | 5.17 ERA, 1.58 WHIP
  • This Week: 10 2/3 IP (2 starts) | 11 Ks, 0 BBs | 1.69 ERA, 0.75 WHIP
  • Age: 23
  • ETA: Early 2025
  • fScores: 103 fStuff, 90 fControl, 108 fERA
  • Comp: A plus version of Braxton Garrett or lefty Brandon Pfaadt
  • Prime Skills: Carson Whisenhunt has a super slurvy-like curveball and possibly the best change-up in the Minors, but he’s playing these against a below-average fastball. Whisenhunt missed all of the second half in 2023 and was thrown to the wolves in the Pacific Coast League (PCL) in 2024, so his damage stats shouldn’t be held too much against him.
  • Player Notes: Whisenhunt may have mastered the PCL finally… what a start to his season.

141. Ian Seymour (SP – TB)

  • 2024 AA/AAA: 145 1/3 IP | 21 K-BB%, 15.2 SwStr%, 29 CSW% | 2.35 ERA, 0.95 WHIP
  • This Week: 10 IP | 15 Ks, 1 BBs | 0.90 ERA, 0.80 WHIP
  • Age: 26
  • ETA: Early/Mid 2025
  • fScores: 101 fStuff, 97 fControl, 125 ERA
  • Comp: Nestor Cortes
  • Prime Skills: Ian Seymour has a low 90s fastball with good ride, a four-pitch mix and a nice change-up. Command, lack of high velocity and injuries have held him back to date, but at this point, the Rays should have him on the short list for a call-up. He had reached AAA in 2021 before needing Tommy John surgery. Has performed very well since the surgery, but has yet to reach the Majors.
  • Player Notes: I had questions when I released my rankings about why Seymour was on them, but he just keeps performing. Yes, it’s not the sexiest stuff, but he is a very good pitcher.

Notable AAA Pitchers Outside the Top 150

Mick Abel (SP – PHI)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 11 IP | 11 Ks, 2 BBs | 3.27 ERA, 1.36 WHIP
  • Notes: Mick Abel is only 23, so one can hope this is the year he finally figures it out.

Carlos Rodriguez (SP – MIL)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 9 IP (2 starts) | 11 Ks, 2 BBs | 1.00 ERA, 1.22 WHIP
  • Notes: We have seen Carlos Rodriguez in the Majors. I think he’s a viable back-end starter, but not really one for fantasy.

J.T. Ginn (SP  – ATH)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 11 IP (2 starts) | 19 Ks, 2 BBs | 1.64 ERA, 0.64 WHIP
  • Notes: It was a killer week for J.T. Ginn, who is not blocked. He could finally be pushing for a rotation spot to match his draft pedigree.

AJ Blubaugh (SP – HOU)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 6 IP | 9 Ks, 0 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.67 WHIP
  • Notes: I saw AJ Blubaugh this spring and he got hit up pretty good, but it’s nice to see some of these repeat AAA guys making gains.

Carson Seymour (SP – SF)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 9 IP | 13 Ks, 2 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.78 WHIP
  • Notes: Ultimately, Carson Seymour likely ends up in the pen, but this is a solid start for a team with a lot of pitching depth.

Ryan Bergert (SP – SD)

  • Season: N/A
  • This Week: 9 IP | 15 Ks, 1 BBs | 2.00 ERA, 1.11 WHIP
  • Notes: The Padres don’t have a lot of pitching depth, so Ryan Bergert is a guy who could come up and contribute at some point this season.
