Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Targets
All the quarterbacks in this article are rostered in under 50% of ESPN leagues.
Michael Penix Jr. (ATL) vs. Minnesota Vikings (19.9% Rostered)
Unfortunately, the Falcons’ top two wide receivers are dealing with shoulder injuries. However, Drake London and Darnell Mooney could play in Week 2. Penix was outstanding in Week 1, despite Mooney missing the game and London leaving the fourth quarter. The former Washington star completed 64.3% of his 42 pass attempts for 298 yards and a touchdown. He also made an impact on the ground, totaling six attempts for 21 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. Furthermore, Penix has two rushing touchdowns in his past two regular-season outings.
Minnesota made several additions on defense in the offseason, including Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave. While the Vikings played well in the second half of Monday night’s matchup against the Chicago Bears, Caleb Williams still finished Week 1 as the QB9, scoring 24.2 fantasy points. He completed 60% of his 35 pass attempts for 210 yards and one touchdown. More importantly, Minnesota struggled to keep Williams in the pocket, as he had six rushing attempts for 58 yards and a touchdown, coming inches away from his second rushing score.
Geno Smith (LV) vs. Los Angeles Chargers (9.1% Rostered)
No one expected Smith to struggle in Week 1 against a revamped New England Patriots defense. However, the veteran had an impressive fantasy performance, especially as a QB2 option in superflex leagues. He completed 70.6% of his 34 pass attempts for 362 yards, a touchdown, and 17.5 fantasy points despite Brock Bowers leaving the game with a knee injury. More importantly, Smith had no trouble hitting multiple receivers, as seven Raiders caught a pass in Week 1. Therefore, fantasy players shouldn’t worry if Bowers misses time with the knee injury.
While the Chargers were victorious in Week 1, their defense struggled against a watered-down Kansas City Chiefs offense. They were without Rashee Rice because of a suspension. More importantly, Xavier Worthy left early in the first quarter with a shoulder injury. Yet, Patrick Mahomes had 258 passing yards and a touchdown, scoring 26 fantasy points against Los Angeles with a battered wide receiver core and little impact from Travis Kelce. Smith is an excellent streaming option this week in what should be a closer-than-expected AFC West matchup on Monday night.
Aaron Rodgers (PIT) vs. Seattle Seahawks (8.8% Rostered)
In hindsight, the fantasy community should have had more confidence in Rodgers last week. We should have known he would hold a grudge against the New York Jets and want to stick it to them. The future Hall of Famer did exactly that, leading the Steelers to a two-point victory in Week 1. More importantly, Rodgers had an excellent fantasy performance and showed that he has gas left in the tank. The veteran completed 73.7% of his 30 pass attempts for 244 yards and four touchdowns, scoring 25.7 fantasy points.
The 25.7 fantasy points were the most Rodgers has had in a game since Week 14 of the 2021 season. Meanwhile, the Seahawks surrendered 277 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 16.8 fantasy points to Brock Purdy despite forcing the quarterback to turn the ball over four times. Furthermore, he finished the week as a top-16 quarterback despite his team losing George Kittle and Jauan Jennings to injury. While fantasy players should expect another four-touchdown performance again in Week 2, Rodgers is a capable streaming option, especially with a good matchup.
Joe Flacco (CLE) vs. Baltimore Ravens (2.5% Rostered)
Flacco was on the quarterback streamer list for Week 1. Unfortunately, he didn’t have the fantasy performance many had hoped for against the Cincinnati Bengals. The veteran quarterback completed 68.9% of his 45 pass attempts for 290 yards, a touchdown, two interceptions, and 12.2 fantasy points. However, the Browns didn’t get blown out, only losing by one point in Week 1. Yet, Flacco will have a bounce-back performance against the Ravens. Cleveland is a 12.5-point underdog and will likely be chasing points most of the second half of this game.
Baltimore had an awful fourth-quarter collapse on Sunday night as Josh Allen had arguably the best performance of his career, completing 71.7% of his 46 pass attempts for 394 yards, two touchdowns, and 38.8 fantasy points. He also had 30 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Week 1. While Flacco won’t provide any rushing production, don’t be surprised if he has similar passing numbers against his former team. Allen repeatedly picked on Jaire Alexander Sunday night. Expect Flacco to do similarly in Week 2, regardless of who Alexander is covering.
