Saturday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings (6/20)
- Three high-priced options are interesting: Cristopher Sanchez, Paul Skenes and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. It’s hard to make a case for one over the other, but Skenes’ strikeout rate gives him the higher upside from start to start. His price is also the lowest it has been all season on DraftKings. Skenes’ 25.5% strikeout rate is second only to Jacob Misiorowski‘s.
- Emerson Hancock is coming off his worst start of the season with six earned runs allowed in four innings. Even more regression seems likely, given that he has a 3.28 ERA, a 4.47 expected ERA and a 3.80 FIP. That may happen, but the matchup with the Red Sox is very good. The Red Sox have the second-worst wRC+ against right-handed pitchers.
- If this were a road start, it would be hard not to be highly exposed to J.T. Ginn. His road ERA is 1.99, and his home ERA is still respectable at 3.93. His matchup today is against the Los Angeles Angels, the team with the league’s highest strikeout rate at 24.7%. His price on DraftKings is especially affordable.

- The Pittsburgh Pirates’ offense is headed to Colorado, which gives them a ballpark boost. It also boosts their prices in DFS, but against Tomoyuki Sugano, that shouldn’t matter. He has a poor 4.79 ERA, but is still substantially better than his 7.12 expected ERA (the league’s worst mark if you drop the qualification to 70 innings) and 5.27 FIP.
- It’s not surprising to see Brandon Lowe hit substantially better against right-handed pitchers. That’s been the case his whole career, and continues this season with a .943 OPS against right-handed pitchers and a .578 OPS against left-handed pitchers. Even more surprising is how much better he has been in road games, with a .940 OPS, compared to a .750 OPS in home games.
- Bryan Reynolds has been one of the hottest hitters in the league over the past 28 days — 1.121 OPS, nine doubles and six home runs. As a switch-hitter, he’s been less effective against right-handed pitchers, but still has a more than respectable .810 OPS against them. Check the lineups before locking him in, as he left yesterday’s game early.
- There aren’t a lot of cheap options in the Pirates’ lineup with the game at Coors Field, but one affordable bat who has done some interesting things in a tiny sample is Tyler Callihan. It’s only been 13 games, but he has five extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs.

- While the Dodgers are better against right-handed pitchers than left-handed pitchers, that doesn’t mean they’re bad against left-handed pitchers. They lead the league in wRC+ against righties (124). Against left-handed pitchers, that mark falls to 105, but that’s still seventh-best in the league. Today’s opposing starter is left-hander Trevor Rogers, who has an expected ERA and FIP in the mid-4.00s.
- As appealing as it is to have Shohei Ohtani in your lineup, make sure you don’t play him today. He is away from the Dodgers on paternity leave. Instead, we’ll start our Dodgers’ stack with Andy Pages. He has 10 extra-base hits against lefties this season in 72 at-bats. Three of those extra-base hits are home runs.
- It’s a bit surprising to see Max Muncy against left-handed pitchers, but he’s performing admirably in the role. For most of his career, the Dodgers have platooned him, so he has had few at-bats against left-handed pitchers. This season, he has four home runs and an .866 OPS against lefties.
- Similar to the Pirates above, there are just not many cheap options to add to the Dodgers stack. One option to consider is Alex Call. While Call doesn’t have a home run yet this season, his slash line against left-handed pitchers is .353/.439/.441.

Core Studs
- Corbin Carroll has a matchup today against Taj Bradley. While Carroll has only faced Bradley six times in his career, he has three hits, including a pair of home runs.
- Left-handed pitcher Connelly Early is taking on the Seattle Mariners today. Julio Rodriguez has struggled to a .676 OPS against right-handed pitchers, but has continued to mash left-handed pitching. His OPS against left-handed pitchers is .930.
- Zack Gelof is in the midst of one of the best stretches of his career. Over the past 14 days, he has four doubles and five home runs. Some of that production was inflated by the two series in Las Vegas, but today’s game is at Sacramento, which we know is also a strong hitter’s environment.
Value Plays/Punts
- It was a short demotion to the minor leagues, but it seems to have helped turn around Royce Lewis‘ season. In 11 games since returning, he has two doubles and three home runs. In the 31 games before his demotion, he had only three doubles and three home runs.
- Alec Bohm‘s cost has never rebounded from his slow start. At the end of April, he was batting .151 with a .426 OPS. That takes a long time for your season stats to recover from. Since the start of May, he has been hitting .288 with an .819 OPS. Yesterday ended a streak of three multi-hit games in a row.
- Christian Moore was recently recalled from the minor leagues when Mike Trout was placed on the injured list (IL). In only two games, Moore has gone 1-for-8. He was crushing in Triple-A before getting called back up with a 1.053 OPS in 51 games.

Saturday’s Top 3 Underdog Player Props
Paul Goldschmidt against a left-handed pitcher like Andrew Abbott should always pique your interest. He has a 1.214 OPS against lefties this season.
Goldschmidt has also been performing well against either-handed pitchers recently. In his last 11 games, he’s cleared 1.5 total bases in eight of them.
There may not be a hotter hitter on the planet right now than Pete Crow-Armstrong. He has exceeded 1.5 combined hits + runs + RBIs in 15 of his last 20 games, including six straight. Crow-Armstrong’s matchup today is against Patrick Corbin.
Cade Cavalli was supposed to pitch yesterday, but was scratched with food poisoning. While he’s expected to pitch today, it’s hard to imagine him already being back to 100%.
Even at 100%, Cavalli was only able to record 15 outs in each of his last three starts. His matchup today is against a Tampa Bay Rays team that strikes out at the lowest rate in the league, so expect them to work counts.
