Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said that Austin Vernon will be shut down for a little while and is expected to remain sidelined for some time. (MLB.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Vernon is dealing with right elbow soreness, which has kept him from pitching during spring training. He remains without a clear timeline for return and could begin the season on the injured list. Although he has yet to pitch at the big-league level, Vernon posted an impressive 2.98 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 56 strikeouts in 48.1 innings between Double-A and Triple-A last season.
