Fantasy Football Injury Report: Week 2

Fantasy Football Injury Report: Week 2

Welcome to the dreaded injury report. Professional football is a violent game, and your fantasy players are going to miss time because of it. Week 2 was a rough one. Hopefully, you don’t have many names on this list.

Jimmy Graham (TE – SEA)
Not that you would want to start Jimmy “I don’t care anymore just get me out of Seattle” Graham anyway, but it’s worth noting that Graham left Sunday’s game after banging his knee. He returned later in the game and should be fine going forward, but if you own Graham, it’s something to be aware of.

Rob Kelley (RB – WAS)
Fat Rob reportedly fractured his ribs on Sunday. He was actually having a rare quality game at the time. It’s unfortunate for Kelley, but I’ve been a Samaje Perine enthusiast since the preseason and this could expedite the takeover. Perine is a lot better than Kelley and will be the early down and goal line back in Kelley’s absence. Chris Thompson will likely see an increase in snaps as well, but Perine is the biggest beneficiary as he goes from a 3-5 carries a game guy to a 15-20 carries a game guy. Perine was drafted in every league, but he might have been dropped after he didn’t touch the ball in Week 1. If he’s out there, go get him. When Kelley returns, he may not have a job waiting for him.

Jordan Reed (TE – WAS)
No shock to see his name here. Reed departed or a period with an AC joint sprain. This was the same injury he incurred last year on Thanksgiving. He returned to that game and played through it, but it pretty much cost him the rest of the season. He is unlikely to play next week. Vernon Davis will start at TE, but he’s not a viable option.

Corey Coleman (WR – CLE)
Unfortunately, Coleman broke his hand again. He missed six weeks last year with the same injury. It’s upsetting for a young player who was finally putting it together. Rashard Higgins looks to be the next man up.

Jordan Howard (RB – CHI)
He popped up on the injury report last week, but was all systems go heading into Sunday’s game against the Bucs. After the game, he had his arm in a sling. We have yet to receive an official report, but Howard is a serious problem for fantasy owners who drafted him in the second round. He is looking like one of the busts of the year and there is no fixing it as Tarik Cohen is owned in just about all leagues at this point. If you own him, you hope to hear good news, but even if he plays, I’m not sure he’s worth starting anymore.

Greg Olsen (TE – CAR)
The Panthers’ TE broke his foot in Sunday’s win over Buffalo. His season may not be over, but he will not be playing anytime soon. There is no direct beneficiary. This further downgrades Cam Newton’s already bleak outlook on the season. Newton is not a QB1.

Rob Gronkowski (TE – NE)
Gronk tweaked his groin in the Patriots’ demolition of the Saints. Reports were that Gronk could’ve returned if necessary. He should be fine going forward.

Rex Burkhead (RB – NE)
Sexy Rexy caught a beautiful over the shoulder touchdown pass from Angry Tom Brady, but saw limited work the rest of the game. Later on, we learned why – he left with a rib injury. Given the Patriots history of candor on injuries, expect this to remain a mystery for as long as possible. Burkhead certainly looked like he was picking up the slack left behind by Danny Amendola’s absence, but that was cut short by his injury. Phillip Dorsett could be forced into action if the injuries keep mounting.

Corey Davis (WR – TEN)
Davis re-tweaked his hamstring. We have yet to get any information on the severity of the injury, but Rishard Matthews stands to benefit from increased usage. Taywan Taylor could also see more snaps.

Jordy Nelson (WR – GB)
Aaron Rodgers’ top target left early in the game with a quad injury. It seemed minor, but he did not return. Davante Adams was Rodgers’ go to guy after Nelson left, but the offense really suffers without Nelson. He cannot be replaced. Randall Cobb would see an uptick in usage if Nelson misses time but…

Randall Cobb (WR – GB)
Cobb also left Sunday night’s game with a shoulder injury of currently unknown severity. Geronimo Allison played in Cobb and Nelson’s absence. Martellus Bennett could see an increase in usage, but he and Rodgers don’t appear to have any sort of connection. Allison is probably not worth an add. This is just going to be a messy situation behind Davante Adams if Nelson and Cobb are out for an extended period of time.
