Players on New Teams to Buy or Sell in Dynasty Leagues (2023 Fantasy Football)

Which player who changed teams this offseason are you buying now in dynasty leagues and why? Also, what are you willing to give up to get him?

D’Andre Swift (RB – PHI)
“D’Andre Swift is a player I’m willing to buy again in dynasty formats. A year ago, Swift was a highly-coveted asset in dynasty leagues. Then things soured in Detroit, and he was shipped to Philadelphia for practically nothing. I love Swift’s landing spot in Philly, and I think he will be a lethal threat in the RPO game with Jalen Hurts, along with a reliable option in the passing game. Health is Swift’s greatest concern, but I trust the Eagles to be smart about how they use him, considering that Rashaad Penny, Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott are all in the RB room. That being said, I don’t think Swift has to touch the ball more than 12-to-15 times a game to be a true fantasy asset. I don’t think you’ll have to give up much for Swift, considering the leaguemate who has him might be out on him like Detroit was. I’d gladly give up a second-round rookie pick for him, or players like Rashod Bateman or Miles Sanders.”
Matt Barbato (BettingPros)

David Montgomery (RB – DET)
“David Montgomery has never been a fantasy superstar, but he gets too much hate for a guy with a top-five finish a few years ago. The veteran running back has been a consistent RB2 for fantasy players in his career despite averaging only 48.5 targets per season. Meanwhile, fantasy players can acquire Montgomery at a discount because of Jahmyr Gibbs. The veteran will fill the Jamaal Williams role, including all the goal line work, while the rookie will replace D’Andre Swift‘s passing game role. Will Montgomery be a top-five running back in 2023? No, but if you can acquire the veteran for an early second-round rookie pick, that’s a deal I would make in a heartbeat.”
Mike Fanelli (FantasyPros)

“There seems to be little enthusiasm for David Montgomery in the dynasty community these days, quite possibly because the Lions drafted Alabama RB Jahmyr Gibbs in the top half of the first round less than two months after signing Montgomery. But Montgomery is still going to get ample snaps in Detroit’s backfield rotation and still has fantasy value. In his four NFL seasons, Montgomery has finished RB24, RB4, RB19 and RB24 in PPR fantasy scoring. He averaged a modest 14.7 touches per game last season and was still a top-25 running back. The Lions have one of the better offensive lines in the league, and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is a high-quality play caller. Montgomery turns 26 this week and should have a few productive years left before reaching the age cliff. If you’re in win-now mode with one of your dynasty teams, consider offering a young receiver such as Elijah Moore, Rashod Bateman or Gabriel Davis for Montgomery.”
Pat Fitzmaurice (FantasyPros)

Hayden Hurst (TE – CAR)
“The Panthers swooped in to offer Hayden Hurst a three-year $21.7m deal when the Bengals expected him to re-sign with them. Now Hurst finds himself part of a veteran pass-catching group that the Panthers have signed to surround Bryce Young. Hurst is onto his fourth NFL team in a matter of years and has never been a top-end producer, but in the two years he’s been the focal point of the tight end room, he saw 52 receptions in 2020 with the Falcons and then 48 with the Bengals in 2022. This was despite the Bengals targeting their tight ends at one of the league’s lowest rates. With only veterans for competition, there’s no reason Hurst couldn’t be a focal point of this offense, and for the equivalent of a late third-round pick, he seems like a safer bet than some of the rookies.”

2023 Fantasy Football Best Ball Draft Advice

Which player who changed teams this offseason are you selling now in dynasty leagues and why? Also, what kind of return are you looking for?

JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR – NE)
“There were two receivers I was pounding the table for in fantasy football in 2022: DK Metcalf and JuJu Smith-Schuster. Metcalf turned out to be a great call, but Smith-Schuster burnt me badly on several teams. I’m convinced that if you can’t make it in Kansas City, chances are you won’t succeed anywhere else. And Smith-Schuster is now joining a Patriots offense led by Mac Jones, who I’m not very high on. That being said, I think you can sell someone on JuJu’s target share potential in New England because he’s only 26 years old. I’d look to get a young running back like Khalil Herbert or Devon Achane or swap him for a wideout like Darnell Mooney if you’re a believer in Chicago’s offensive uprising.”
Matt Barbato (BettingPros)

“If someone in your league believes JuJu Smith-Schuster might still be able to recapture the magic of his first two seasons because he’s only 26 years old, sell while the sellin’s good. Over the last four seasons, JuJu has averaged 49.9 receiving yards per game and has scored 15 touchdowns in 49 games. He finished WR27 in PPR fantasy scoring last season despite being paired with ace QB Patrick Mahomes and offensive mastermind Andy Reid. It’s hard to imagine JuJu will improve upon his 2022 results with a QB downgrade from Mahomes to Mac Jones. Try to deal JuJu for a young running back like James Cook or Zach Charbonnet, or for a good young tight end like Greg Dulcich or Chig Okonkwo.”
Pat Fitzmaurice (FantasyPros)

Jakobi Meyers (WR – LV)
Jakobi Meyers earned 222 targets over the past two years, averaging 7.2 per game. Yet, he has averaged only 9.4 half-point PPR fantasy points per game during those two years, never finishing higher than the WR28 either season. More importantly, Meyers led the New England Patriots in targets the past two years. Now he joins a Las Vegas Raiders team that gave Davante Adams a 32.6% target share last season, the highest in the NFL. After seeing at least a 22% target share each of the past two seasons, Meyers will struggle to earn the looks needed to be more than a mid-level flex player for fantasy players. I would try to trade him away in a package to acquire Diontae Johnson or Marquise Brown.”
Mike Fanelli (FantasyPros)

Elijah Moore (WR – CLE)
“Outside of the obvious free agent running backs who have yet to sign with a new team, I think it’s Elijah Moore. He goes to a Cleveland team where Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones did well last year. Moore didn’t break out on the Jets either, which makes me nervous. I’d be happy to get a future 2nd rounder at this point, even two years out. If I can package him and another player to tier up, that could be a good option too.”
Andrew Hall (FantasyPros)

Aaron Rodgers (QB – NYJ)
“Unless you’re a competitor, this feels like the last chance you’ll have to sell Aaron Rodgers at a fair price before he reaches the end of his career. Rodgers has been a very reliable fantasy asset and is now playing with an elite young receiver in Garrett Wilson, but it’s also possible that his time with the Jets doesn’t go well. After all, Nathaniel Hackett will be calling the plays, and his most recent experience as a play-caller was in Denver, where things went poorly, to say the least. If you can turn Rodgers and a 2024 3rd into any 2024 first-round pick, that’s absolutely worth doing in the hopes that first becomes a high one.”
