Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Targets
All the quarterbacks in this article are rostered in under 50% of ESPN leagues.
Daniel Jones (IND) vs. Tennessee Titans (21.2% Rostered)
Two weeks into the season, and it might be time for fantasy players to accept that Jones could be this year’s Sam Darnold. The former Duke star was outstanding in Week 1, totaling 272 passing yards, a touchdown, and two rushing scores, finishing with 29.5 fantasy points against an awful Miami Dolphins defense. Many called for him to regress last week because of the matchup against the Denver Broncos. However, he had 316 passing yards, a passing touchdown, a rushing score, and 22.8 fantasy points in the win.
Not only has Jones been a fantasy star with his legs, totaling three rushing touchdowns, but the veteran has also been an excellent passer. He has completed 71.4% of his pass attempts this season. Meanwhile, Jones should keep up his hot start in Week 3. Tennessee struggled to slow down Matthew Stafford last week. The veteran completed nearly 70% of his 33 pass attempts for 298 yards, two touchdowns, and 17.3 fantasy points against the Titans. Furthermore, he could have potentially had a third passing touchdown in the contest.
Aaron Rodgers (PIT) vs. New England Patriots (20.5% Rostered)
Rodgers made the streaming article last week after a massive Week 1 performance against the New York Jets. The veteran quarterback completed 73.3% of his 30 pass attempts for 244 yards, four touchdowns, and 25.7 fantasy points against his former team. Unfortunately, the future Hall of Famer struggled against an impressive Seattle Seahawks defense last week, completing 54.5% of his 33 pass attempts for 203 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and 10.4 fantasy points. However, he should have a bounce-back performance on Sunday against a struggling Patriots defense.
New England made several additions on defense this offseason. Yet, they haven’t had much success slowing down opposing passing attacks over the first two weeks. The Patriots gave up 362 passing yards, a touchdown, and 17.5 fantasy points in Week 1 to Geno Smith. Furthermore, they surrendered 315 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 18.6 to Tua Tagovailoa last week after the former Alabama star struggled against a below-average Indianapolis Colts defense in Week 1. Don’t be surprised if Rodgers has a top-10 finish this week against New England.
Sam Darnold (SEA) vs. New Orleans Saints (7.3% Rostered)
Fantasy players won’t love the idea of starting Darnold. However, the former USC star is a solid streaming option or replacement quarterback for fantasy players in deeper leagues. After an awful Week 1 performance, totaling 5.4 fantasy points, the veteran quarterback bounced back last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Darnold completed 66.7% of his 33 pass attempts for 295 yards, two touchdowns, and 15.8 fantasy points despite throwing two interceptions. More importantly, he got production from Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp after the veteran wide receiver struggled in Week 1.
More importantly, Darnold has an appealing matchup on Sunday against the Saints. New Orleans gave up two passing touchdowns and 18.3 fantasy points to Kyler Murray in Week 1. Many expected them to shut down the San Francisco 49ers offense last week with Brock Purdy out of the lineup. However, Mac Jones had one of the better performances of his career. The former Alabama star had 279 passing yards, three touchdowns, and 21.8 fantasy points despite missing George Kittle. Don’t be surprised if Darnold has a three-touchdown performance on Sunday.
Backup Quarterbacks
- Mac Jones (SF) vs. Arizona Cardinals (1.4% Rostered)
- Jake Browning (CIN) vs. Minnesota Vikings (0.1% Rostered)
- Marcus Mariota (WAS) vs. Las Vegas Raiders (0.1% Rostered)
- Carson Wentz (MIN) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (0.1% Rostered)
Normally, I have a fourth quarterback streaming option in this article. However, I decided to switch it up with all the quarterback injury news over the past few days. Playing in superflex leagues can be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, that typically means every starting quarterback gets drafted, leaving no options on the waiver wire without a starter getting hurt. We could have four backup quarterbacks starting in Week 3. Therefore, let’s quickly dive into their outlook this week.
The only way fantasy players should start these quarterbacks is in deeper 1QB leagues or superflex leagues. Jones was productive last week, totaling three touchdowns and 21.8 fantasy points. He has a solid matchup against the Cardinals, who gave up 21.3 fantasy points to Bryce Young in Week 2. Meanwhile, Browning had three interceptions after replacing the injured Joe Burrow on Sunday. Yet, he also had 241 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 17.7 fantasy points on 32 attempts.
Reportedly, Jayden Daniels and J.J. McCarthy will likely miss Sunday’s contests because of injury. Thankfully, neither quarterback should be out for a long period of time. Mariota is the better starting option. The veteran was productive filling in for Daniels last season, averaging 1.04 fantasy points per pass attempt. However, Wentz has arguably the more appealing matchup against the Bengals and better supporting cast. Both backups will be bottom five quarterbacks in my Week 3 rankings.
