Minnesota Vikings

NFC North

The Minnesota Vikings signed Dede Westbrook, the WR's agency announced Sunday. No details were provided. (Source:

Fantasy Impact: Westbrook worked out for the Vikings Saturday, according to Ian Rapoport, so the WR must be on track to play Week 1 after suffering a torn ACL Week 7 last season. Drafted in the fourth round in 2017 by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Westbrook's missed 24 games since entering the league - including 14 last season. Appearing in 15 games in 2019, the WR totaled 66 catches on 101 targets for 660 yards and three touchdowns.

Arif Hasan of The Athletic writes Irv Smith has the talent and opportunity to become the No. 3 weapon in the Vikings' passing game. (Source: The Athletic)

Fantasy Impact: The tight end position has one of the longest learning curves coming out of the draft, but Smith is now entering his third season in the NFL. Kyle Rudolph is in New York and the third-year pro has a clear path to the starting role. The Vikings have a limited number of pass-catchers behind Justin Jefferson and an aging Adam Thielen, which presents a big opportunity for the former Crimson Tide to become the No. 3 option in the passing game. The Vikings routinely play with two tight ends on the field more than most, so he should have ample playing time. When Rudolph went down with an injury late last year, Smith had 15 catches for 183 yards and three touchdowns in weeks 14-17. During that time, he ranked as the TE4. It's a small sample size to be sure, but fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if he breaks into the top-10 for tight ends. He's currently being drafted as the TE11, which is a nice spot for fantasy managers to target him.

Vikings tight end Tyler Conklin has improved on the field this offseason. Now filling a TE2 role following Kyle Rudolph's departure, Conklin continues to "show the impact he can make" during minicamp. (Source:

Fantasy Impact: Conklin's emergence as an above-average TE2 could pay dividends for an electric offense that often features two-tight end sets. This is a system with a lot of mouths to feed, but Conklin, alongside Irv Smith Jr., has shown what he brings to the table. "It's a bigger role for Tyler Conklin," detailed head coach Mike Zimmer. "He has kind of emerged as a guy that's moving upward, and with those two guys, we have a lot of weapons there. ... We're excited about these two young tight ends that we have." Conklin ranks 51st among tight ends in the latest expert consensus draft rankings, though that could change as the offseason progresses.

The Vikings signed rookie QB Kellen Mond to a four-year, $5.2 million contract on Monday. (Source: Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Mond was selected in the third round, 66th overall by the Vikings in the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s expected to serve as the backup QB behind Kirk Cousins. The 21-year-old QB threw 19 touchdowns with three interceptions in his senior year at Texas A&M. Mond is considered a dual-threat but will only have fantasy appeal if Cousins were to miss any time in 2021. The Vikings rookie QB is mainly a dynasty stash for now.

DE Danielle Hunter and Vikings agree on restructured deal. (Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The Vikings get some much-needed cap space by converting Hunter’s $12.125 million base salary into a signing bonus. He has absent from OTAs but will report to minicamp after agreeing to a restructured deal. The 26-year-old (neck) missed all of last season with a herniated disc which required surgery in October. Hunter has been one of the league’s best defenders before the injury and his presence on the field only improves the Vikings' defensive line. Hunter racked up 70 tackles and 14.5 sacks across 16 games in 2019.

The Vikings signed former Kansas City Chiefs DB Bashaud Breeland to a contract on Friday. (Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Breeland adds experience and bolsters a deep Vikings secondary which includes Patrick Peterson, Tye Smith, and Mackensie Alexander. He’s started 27 games for the Chiefs the past two seasons and will most likely line up alongside Peterson. Breeland racked up 38 tackles and two interceptions across 11 games for Kansas City in 2020.

Minnesota Vikings LB Anthony Barr (chest) was seen at practice on Monday for the first time since suffering a season-ending torn pectoral against the Indianapolis Colts on September 20, 2020. (Source: Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The four-time Pro Bowl linebacker was seen on the practice field following a torn pectoral that ended his 2020 season during a Week 2 loss against the Colts. The Vikings were one of the worst defensive units without Barr in 2020, allowing the fourth-highest points per game (29.7) during a disappointing 7-9 season. Barr should help return the Vikings' linebacking corps to an elite level alongside fellow Pro-Bowl LB Eric Kendricks, with rookie LB Chazz Surratt drafted in the third round out of UNC to build depth. Expect head coach Mike Zimmer to field a much-improved defense in 2021, with Barr's return playing a significant role.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that CB Mike Hughes has been traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: Chiefs are sending their 2022 sixth-round pick to the Vikings in return for Hughes and their 2022 seventh-round pick. Hughes only started two games this season. He did not record any interceptions and had nine tackles on the season. Chiefs wanted to add CB depth and Hughes will look to bounce back in Kansas City.

Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Eagles have signed LB Eric Wilson to a one-year deal worth up to $3.25M. (Source: Mike Garafolo on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Wilson, 26-years old, is coming off his first year as a full-time starter for the Vikings during which he totaled 122 tackles, three interceptions, and three sacks. The one-year deal will be worth up to $3.25M and presents a good value for Philadelphia as they get a player coming off a career year with special teams experience as well.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Ameer Abdullah is re-signing with the Vikings. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: Abdullah saw limited action during the 2020 NFL season. He produced 42 yards on eight carries and caught eight passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns. The Vikings let Mike Boone walk so they needed some insurance and depth incase Dalvin Cook or Alexander Mattison went down with injury. Abdullah has no fantasy value and is not worth rostering.

Anthony Harris is signing a one-year, $5 million deal with the Eagles, according to Adam Schefter. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Harris will presumably replace fellow safety Jalen Mills, who left the Eagles for the Patriots earlier this week. Harris, Pro Football Focus' 38th-ranked safety last season, appeared in every game last season for the Vikings - totaling 58 tackles, seven passes defended, and two tackles for loss.

The Vikings will not be tendering running back Mike Boone. He becomes an unrestricted free agent and is free to sign with any team when the new league year begins on Wednesday. (Source: Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Boone, 25, spent the past three years in a depth role with the Vikings. Through 40 games (two starts), he amassed 71 carries for 379 yards and four touchdowns. Ultimately pushed to an RB3 role with Minnesota due to Alexander Mattison's presence, Boone could be a popular target in free agency for teams in search of an affordable backup option.

Minnesota Vikings WR Chad Beebe is now in line to potentially become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday, as a deal to stay in Minnesota seems unlikely. (Source: Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The third-year receiver caught 20 receptions for 201 yards and two touchdowns across 10 games for the Vikings in 2020. The slot receiver has the speed and hands to be a valuable asset in free agency, which it appears he will soon be hitting barring any sudden re-signing in Minnesota.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Vikings are releasing OT Riley Reiff saving the team over $11 million in cap space. (Source: Adam Schefter on twitter)

Fantasy Impact: After four seasons with the Vikings, the team has decided to part ways with veteran OT Riley Reiff. The move will save the team $11 million in cap space. Reiff started 58 games in his career over four seasons with the team.

Minnesota Vikings K Dan Bailey has been released by the organization after three seasons, as reported by ESPN's Dianna Russini. (Source: Dianna Russini on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Bailey struggled during a few clutch moments for the Vikings in 2020, finishing the season 15-of-22 with his longest conversion coming from 53 yards. Unfortunately, the veteran kicker only managed to go 6-of-12 from 40+ yards, contributing to the ongoing kicking woes that Minnesota has endured for years. Bailey will likely end up competing for a starting job as he hits free agency, although he will need to improve his accuracy to return value for fantasy managers in 2021.

Following his release by the Vikings last week, Kyle Rudolph is now reportedly interested in joining the New England Patriots. (Source:

Fantasy Impact: Rudolph would be an interesting addition to the New England tight end room. If Rudolph were to become the starting tight end for the Patriots next season he would be a very interesting weekly streaming candidate for fantasy managers.

Minnesota Vikings D/ST racked up a sack, an INT, and a fumble recovery in the Vikings’ 37-35 win over the Lions on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: This wasn't a great game for Minnesota's defense, though there's no surprise here. This unit has plenty of work to do in the offseason to come back more respectably in 2021.

Category: Game Recaps

Adam Thielen brought in four of five targets for 57 yards in the Vikings’ 37-35 win over the Lions on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: He ends the season with 25 yards and a career-high 14 touchdowns. Thielen will be on the WR2/3 map in 2021, as the emergence of Justin Jefferson has certainly decreased the former's fantasy value.

Category: Game Recaps

Justin Jefferson caught nine of 12 targets for 133 yards in the Vikings’ 37-35 win over the Lions on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Jefferson's huge day capped off a remarkable rookie year, as he set the rookie receiving record with 1,400 yards in 2020. The mark broke Anquan Boldin's 2003 record of 1,377 yards. Jefferson's monster campaign should make him an early-to-mid-round fantasy selection in 2021 drafts.

Category: Game Recaps

Alexander Mattison rushed 21 times for 95 yards and a TD and caught all three of his targets for 50 yards and an additional score in the Vikings’ 37-35 win over the Lions on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: With Dalvin Cook out of action, Mattison handled the bulk of MInnesota's backfield work and rumbled for 145 yards and two scores. It was a nice ending to the season for Mattison managers who were burned by him earlier in the year.
