Minnesota Vikings

NFC North

Vikings' RB Ameer Abdullah rushed twice for seven yards and hauled in one of two targets for a one yard reception in a 40-23 blowout loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Abdullah was part of the Vikings' backfield rotation split amongst Alexander Mattison and Mike Boone in place of injured star RB Dalvin Cook. The running game never took off as the Vikings quickly fell behind due to QB Kirk Cousins' three first half interceptions. Abdullah can be dropped to waivers by fantasy managers who roster him, since the Vikings are heading into their Week 7 Bye with the expectation of Cook's return in Week 8 against division rival Green Bay.

Vikings' RB Mike Boone was held to just one rushing attempt for negative one yard and hauled in his lone target for six yards in Sunday's 40-23 blowout loss to the Falcons.

Fantasy Impact: Boone was the back-up to RB Alexander Mattison, who replaced injured Vikings' star RB Dalvin Cook (groin) as the starter on Sunday. Minnesota quickly fell behind in the first half as QB Kirk Cousins threw three interceptions, which resulted in the running game being game-scripted out to erase the huge deficit. With the Vikings heading into their Week 7 Bye, Boone can be dropped to waivers as Cook is expected to return in Week 8.

Dan Bailey made his only extra point attempt in the Vikings’ 40-23 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Minnesota didn't score its first points until the third quarter, and by then, the team was down 23-7. Bailey nailed one extra point, and the Vikings went for two on the next two touchdowns. He'll be a matchup-based option following Minnesota's Week 7 bye.

Justin Jefferson hauled in nine of 11 targets for 166 yards and 2 TDs in the Vikings’ 40-23 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: For the third time in four weeks, Jefferson topped 100 yards. He’s now gone for a monstrous 23/467/3 line across his last four games and has established himself as a rock-solid WR2 moving forward. He’ll head into the Week 7 bye averaging nearly 90 yards per game through his first six NFL contests.

Adam Thielen corralled three of five targets for 51 yards and a TD in the Vikings’ 40-23 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Thielen disappointed in a prime matchup, ceding work to Justin Jefferson, as the rookie went off for 9/166/2. Despite the small showing, Thielen still found the end zone for the seventh time this season and will remain a WR1/2 when Minnesota takes on Green Bay in Week 8 following the Vikings’ bye.

Irv Smith Jr. caught four of five targets for 55 yards in the Vikings’ 40-23 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: He nearly came down with a touchdown early in the game when he reached down for a reception at the goal line, but he couldn’t hold on to it. Minnesota then finished the drive with a turnover on downs. Smith Jr. was the Vikings’ second-leading receiver for the second week in a row, and he should be a streamable TE2 with TE1 if he can remain involved in the offense moving forward.

Minnesota Vikings D/ST compiled two sacks, recovered a fumble and gave up 40 points in the Vikings’ 40-23 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: This defense has been underwhelming all season, and Sunday’s lackluster performance was no different. This unit shouldn’t be in fantasy lineups against Green Bay in Week 8 when the Vikings come out of their bye.

Kyle Rudolph brought in three of four targets for 47 yards in the Vikings’ 40-23 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Rudy had one of his best games of the season, but there shouldn’t be an overreaction due to the friendly matchup against the Falcons. Irv Smith Jr. looks to have assumed the TE1 role in this offense, and Rudolph will be best left on benches.

Alexander Mattison rushed 10 times for 26 yards and caught one of two targets for four yards in the Vikings’ 40-23 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Wow. That was … interesting. After going for over 100 yards as Dalvin Cook’s fill-in in Week 6, Mattison flopped in a major way against Atlanta. Facing an 0-5 Falcons team that was apparently fed up with losing, Mattison couldn’t find much running room. It also didn’t help that the Falcons went up 23-0 in the third quarter, and Minnesota was forced to abandon the run. The team will take a bye in Week 7, and Dalvin Cook will presumably be back in the starting lineup for Week 8. Barring another injury to Cook, Mattison should head back to fantasy benches.

Kirk Cousins completed 24 of 36 passes for 343 yards, 3 TDs, and 3 INTs in the Vikings’ 40-23 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Even in an excellent matchup, Cousins struggled for most of the afternoon, doing a lot of his damage in garbage time in the second half, with Minnesota trailing 23-0 into the third quarter. Still, points are points, and Captain Kirk gave fantasy managers what they wanted with a big showing in the blowout loss. Minnesota will take its bye in Week 7.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (groin) is expected to return in Week 8 against the Packers. (Source: Tom Pelissero on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Minnesota has a Week 7 bye, so they're playing it safe and holding Cook out of their Week 6 matchup with the Falcons in order to give him two weeks to get healthy. Alexander Mattison has RB1 upside in a mouthwatering matchup versus Atlanta in his absence.

Olabisi Johnson caught his only target for 13 yards in the Vikings’ 27-26 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: It was Johnson’s first reception since Week 2. The second-year man out of Colorado St has clearly fallen behind Justin Jefferson in the pecking order and isn’t playable even in the deepest of leagues.

Vikings CB Kris Boyd is listed as inactive against the Seahawks for Monday Night Football. (Source: Vikings on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Boyd and fellow cornerback Holton Hill has also been ruled inactive, leaving the Vikings secondary very suspect ahead of Sunday's tilt against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks.

Vikings CB Holton Hill is listed as inactive Sunday versus the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Impact: Hill is the starting right cornerback for Minnesota, and his absence likely increases snap for the rookie out of Temple, Harrison Hand. Fantasy managers should expect Russell Wilson to go to work against the injured Vikings secondary on Sunday Night Football.

Vikings rookie WR K.J. Osborn is listed as inactive on Sunday versus the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Impact: Osborn has appeared in three games this season for the Vikings and has been utilized primarily as a punt/kick returner. Osborn is not relevant for fantasy purposes and can be left on waivers in all formats.

Vikings' WR Tajae Sharpe is a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against his former team. (Source: Minnesota Vikings on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: There will be no revenge game for Sharpe, as he is a healthy scratch for Sunday's game against the Titans'. Adam Thielen, Justin Jefferson, Bisi Johnson and Chad Beebe will serve as the Vikings WR's on Sunday.

DE Danielle Hunter (neck) is unlikely to come off the injured reserve next week when eligible. There is optimism that he will return this season. (Source: Tom Pelissero on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: Hunter has been dealing with a neck injury and was placed on the the injured reserve in early September. The Vikings star DE reportedly is not expected to come off the IR when eligible to return Week 4. He will need additional time to recover and is expected to come back at some point this season. Hunter is big part of the Vikings defensive front and should be considered week-to-week.

Cameron Dantzler (ribs) misses practice on Friday. (Source: Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Dantzler missed Sunday's Week 2 contest against the Colts due to a rib injury. He is trending in the wrong direction towards playing Week 3. The Vikings could be without their top two corners. Keep an eye on the inactive list once it's announced Sunday morning.

Mike Hughes (neck) didn't participate practice on Friday. (Source: Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Hughes has not practiced all week and is danger of missing Sunday's Week 3 contest against the Titans. The Vikings defense has struggled this season, but the team could be without their top two corners on Sunday. Keep an eye on the inactive list once it's announced Sunday morning.

Minnesota Vikings LB Anthony Barr will miss the remainder of the season with a torn pectoral muscle. (Source: Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Barr recently signed a big contract extension to remain a Viking for the foreseeable future. He is an extremely versatile player and this is a huge blow to a defense that appears to be struggling at the start of the season.
