Weekend Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 9 Fantasy Football)

Weekend Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 9 Fantasy Football)

How many times have you heard someone telling you to “stream” a position? Whether it be quarterback, tight end, or defense, the idea of streaming is great, provided you get the players you want off the waiver wire. The issue with streaming week-to-week is that everyone knows who you’ll be targeting in those good matchups and you might have that player swiped from underneath you, or even worse, your opponent that week may snag a player just to ensure you don’t get them.

We started this article so you don’t have to worry about that anymore. Each Saturday morning, you’ll head over to your waiver wire and snag the players who are lined up for good matchups the following week. They may have a brutal matchup for that current week. Great, even better. That just means they’re more likely to be available for you. By snagging them a week prior, you eliminate the need to spend a lot of FAAB dollars on the top tier defense that everyone is chasing. Here are the players who have solid Week 10 matchups on tap and are less than 40 percent owned.

Quarterbacks

Sam Darnold (NYJ) vs NYG
With six teams on their bye in Week 10, there will be a lot of fantasy owners looking for streamers this week, and Darnold is by far the best of the bunch. He should be higher owned than he is while playing against the Dolphins this week, but then returning home to play the Giants next week. They’ve actually been worse than the Dolphins, allowing a league-high 9.15 yards per attempt combined with a completion-rate over 70 percent. There have been just two quarterbacks who’ve failed to finish with at least 20 fantasy points and top-10 options against them all year.

Mitch Trubisky (CHI) vs DET
He hasn’t been good, that much is true. However, the Lions defense is one he had tremendous success against last year while at home. In that game, against the Matt Patricia defense, he completed 23-of-30 attempts for 355 yards and three touchdowns. The Lions have struggled over the last few weeks, allowing eight passing touchdowns to the combination of Kirk Cousins and Daniel Jones. If Darnold isn’t available, Trubisky is the next best low-owned option.

Running Backs

*Disclaimer: Running backs under 40 percent owned are horrendous. Hard to find a streamer with six teams on bye.

Ronald Jones (TB) vs ARI
Most have grown tired of the timeshare act in Tampa Bay and I’m one of them, though Jones still has value as a bye week replacement. As frustrating as it’s been, he’s still generated at least 11 touches in 5-of-7 games to this point. The Cardinals defense hasn’t allowed massive numbers overall on the ground, but if you look over the last few weeks now that Patrick Peterson‘s back, teams are exploiting the next-best weakness. The Cardinals’ opponents are averaging over 66 plays per game, so there should be plenty of work available for Jones.

Gus Edwards (BAL) at CIN
There are slim pickings on waiver wires at the running back position, but if there’s someone who should offer at least an eight-touch floor with touchdown potential, it’s Edwards. He’s averaged 31 percent of the Ravens carries this year, which may not sound like a lot, but against the Bengals, it could be. They’ve faced an average of 25.4 carries per game by running backs, which would amount to around eight carries for Edwards against a defense that’s allowed 4.86 yards per carry and a touchdown every 25.4 carries. Keep in mind there’s likely to be more carries to go around than normal, as the Bengals are starting rookie Ryan Finley at quarterback.

Hail-mary option: Jordan Wilkins (IND) vs MIA

Wide Receivers

Ted Ginn (NO) vs ATL
With Drew Brees back under center, Ginn is back on the fantasy radar and should be owned in most leagues. Did you know that since Ginn joined the Saints, he’s played 22 full games with Brees, and has finished with 12.2 or more PPR points in 11 of them? Those are WR3 or better marks in precisely half his games. Now on to play the Falcons, a team that’s allowed 41.6 PPR points per game to wide receivers. The 2.26 PPR points per target is the most in the league, making Ginn a worthwhile WR3 option in Week 10.

DeVante Parker (MIA) at IND
Why is he still available in 70 percent of leagues? He’s now totaled at least 55 yards and/or a touchdown in 6-of-7 games with the only exception coming against the Patriots. With Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, he’s seeing plenty of targets and has finished as a top-26 PPR option in three of the last four weeks. The Colts aren’t a defense that’s weak, but they’re also not one to fear with streamers. Wide receviers have averaged a very-healthy 9.74 yards per target with a massive 71.9 percent catch-rate against them, which are both bottom-five in the league. Knowing he’s seen at least six targets in 5-of-7 games, he’s worthy of being owned and started in this matchup.

Diontae Johnson (PIT) vs LAR
He’s performed well with Mason Rudolph under center and has finished as the WR26 or better in 3-of-4 games. The Rams are now a horrendous matchup for No. 1 receivers, as Jalen Ramsey will follow them around the field. That means Johnson will see a lot of Troy Hill, a cornerback who’s allowed a 106.5 QB Rating in his coverage over his five-year career. Rudolph has targeted him at least six times in each start.

Other viable options: Cole Beasley (BUF) at CLE, Demaryius Thomas (NYJ) vs NYG, Geronimo Allison (GB) vs CAR

Tight Ends

O.J. Howard (TB) vs ARI
I cannot believe it’s come to this for Howard, who is now available in more than 60 percent of leagues. But hey, thanks fantasy owners for making this pick a tad easier. He should be back in the lineup for this game against the Cardinals, a team that’s allowed seven different tight ends to finish as a top-10 option against them, which is easily the most in football. The fact that the Bucs didn’t trade Howard suggest they do value him more than fantasy owners, as he would’ve netted a lot in return.

Jack Doyle (IND) vs MIA
While Eric Ebron gets all the love, it’s Doyle who’s had more opportunity. He’s played nearly double the snaps, has run 20 more routes, and has one more target. Against the Dolphins, that can mean a lot, as they’ve allowed 9.60 yards per target to tight ends this year, though the one touchdown has limited their overall numbers to the position. Knowing Doyle has at least five targets in three of the last four games, he should be a borderline TE1 in Week 10, especially now that T.Y. Hilton is slated to miss nearly a month.

If he’s still available: Chris Herndon (NYJ) vs NYG

D/ST

Indianapolis Colts vs MIA
We’ve been here before, right? If a defense is playing the Dolphins and are available in 60-plus percent of leagues, they’re going to be here. Opponents have sacked the Dolphins quarterback(s) at least three times in 6-of-7 games, including five or more times on three separate occasions. That’s not even counting the 12 interceptions and five fumble recoveries. The Colts are also at home, which is the ideal scenario for a streaming defense.

Baltimore Ravens at CIN
There are many fantasy owners who dropped the Ravens defense due to the matchup on Sunday night against the Patriots. That allows you to swoop in and snag them for a matchup against rookie quarterback Ryan Finley, who will be starting for the Bengals in Week 10. Sure, they’re getting A.J. Green back into the lineup, but if you’ve watched that offensive line, you know an immobile rookie quarterback is going to have issues.
