NFL Rumors
Dalvin Cook says odds are ‘pretty high’ that he will sign with Jets
Dalvin Cook has stated that he believes that the odds that he signs with the New York Jets are ‘pretty high’.
Fantasy Impact
Cook recently took a visit with the New York Jets, and in a Friday morning appearance on Good Morning Football, he stated that he thinks his odds of signing there are ‘pretty high’. He also mentioned that the Dolphins are still in play, but it sounds like the Jets are the clear favorite for the time being. No deal is done yet, but this will bring some serious fantasy implications for players like Breece Hall and Aaron Rodgers if a deal gets done soon.

Jonathan Taylor: Colts have not approached star RB about new contract
The Colts have not approached RB Jonathan Taylor about a contract extension, according to owner Jim Irsay.
Fantasy Impact
Taylor is widely considered one of the best young running backs in football, but the Colts have not made an effort to approach him regarding a contract extension. Jim Irsay has publicly stated his hesitance to pay running backs big money in the current market, and with Taylor set to hit the open market next off-season, we could see him get tagged or just sign with a new team altogether. This situation is one to keep tabs on for dynasty managers of the young stud.

Rookie Watch
Puka Nacua receiving heavy workload in camp
According to team reporter Stu Jackson, the Los Angeles Rams have tested and given a large workload to WR Puka Nacua over the offseason.
Fantasy Impact
Nacua, a fifth-round pick out of BYU, could out-snap his draft capital early in his career. Nacua was a fairly productive WR in college at both BYU and Washington, but he fits well into the Rams’ system as a Robert Woods-esque player. The rookie has an aggression when run blocking and is a skilled runner with the football – rushing for five TDs in 2022 – that will help him see the field early in Sean McVay’s offense. The question for him in his rookie year isn’t whether he will see the field, it’s whether he will translate snaps to stats or if he’ll stay healthy, a struggle of his in college.

Dalton Kincaid seeing consistent targets in Bills’ practice
The Bills’ rookie tight end, Dalton Kincaid, has been seeing consistent targets from QB Josh Allen in practice, according to The Athletic.
Fantasy Impact
The early targets for Kincaid from his new QB are a great sign for the chemistry between the two, as the season approaches. Rookie tight ends have a poor track record in general, and fantasy football is no exception, but if Kincaid can get a rapport going with Allen he could be serviceable at fantasy’s weakest position. Kincaid may be worth a late-round flyer and has an obvious upside in dynasty formats.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba earns early praise from Geno Smith
Jaxon Smith-Njigba has earned early praise from QB Geno Smith after his impressive start to training camp.
Fantasy Impact
Smith-Njigba, who was a first-round pick for the Seahawks in the 2023 NFL Draft, has been the talk of Seattle’s training camp after making multiple impressive plays in the first few days that they’ve been practicing. He earned praise from starting QB Geno Smith, which is a great sign for his development and role on the team. We could see the rookie become a key part of this offense sooner rather than later if he can continue on his current trajectory for the season.

C.J. Stroud: Texans not naming rookie QB the starter just yet
The Texans have not yet named rookie C.J. Stroud the starting quarterback for the 2023 season.
Fantasy Impact
Houston is reportedly in no rush to name a starting quarterback, despite taking C.J. Stroud with the second-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He’s reportedly splitting first team reps with veteran Davis Mills right now, and it’s unclear when the team intends on announcing their starter. The rookie will probably end up being the starter for the Texans, but it’s less than ideal that he’s not getting all of the quality reps at practice.

Injury News
Joe Burrow out several weeks with calf strain
Joe Burrow will be out for several weeks with a calf strain he suffered in training camp this week. While unfortunate, it’s good news that he avoided a major injury.
Fantasy Impact
Burrow will likely miss most, if not all, of training camp with the injury. He could come in late in the preseason to shake off rust and get back into the flow of the game, but he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL at the moment, and this injury should not make fantasy managers hesitate to draft him. He’s a rock-solid QB1.
Garrett Ball
Cooper Kupp not being limited in training camp
Cooper Kupp has no limitations in training camp after undergoing an ankle procedure late last season.
Fantasy Impact
Kupp had to get tightrope surgery on his ankle last year after suffering a high-ankle sprain, but he has had plenty of time to recover and is now participating at camp without any limitations. His health and the health of QB Matthew Stafford are the two main concerns for his fantasy production this season, but we’ve been getting positive news on both fronts, which adds some stability to the veteran as a top-ten overall player in most leagues.

Amari Cooper returns for individual drills Friday
Amari Cooper will return to practice on Friday to participate in individual drills.
Fantasy Impact
Cooper has been sidelined at practice for the past few days because of a ‘minor tweak’, but he seems to be getting healthier and he’ll be available to participate in individual drills on Friday. There was never serious concern about the veteran’s injury, but it’s still reassuring for fantasy managers to see him back on the field this soon.

Diontae Johnson leaves camp early for heat-related reasons
According to Jeff Hathhorn of 93.7 the Fan, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that WR Diontae Johnson‘s early departure from practice was for heat-related reasons.
Fantasy Impact
Fortunate for Steelers fans that Johnson did not suffer any kind of injury but instead left for manageable reasons. Johnson, a one-time Pro Bowler, is entering his fifth NFL season off an 882-yard, no-TDs campaign. With the ascension of QB Kenny Pickett, Johnson will likely regress back to the mean, meaning a better season than 2022 is coming up soon. He can be drafted at a half-PPR price of WR34, according to FantasyPros’ ADP data.

Jalen Ramsey undergoes successful surgery, targeting December
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, DB Jalen Ramsey underwent a full meniscus repair on Friday and has a target return date of December.
Fantasy Impact
Ramsey won’t be able to return until a late-season push/playoff run, but the repair was regarded as the best option for Ramsey’s long-term health. One of the best DBs in the NFL, Ramsey was set to be a defensive weapon for Miami, potentially playing in every defensive back spot depending on the matchup due to his versatility. Without Ramsey, the Dolphins will have to rely on Xavien Howard, Cam Smith and Kader Kohou to hold down the fort along the way.

Odell Beckham Jr. has ‘no limitations’ on what he can do in camp
Odell Beckham Jr. has ‘no limitations’ on what he can do in training camp.
Fantasy Impact
Beckham injured his knee a couple of seasons ago that caused him to have a lengthy recovery, but he seems to be healthy now and isn’t limited for the start of camp. This was expected, but it’s still positive news for the veteran and his fantasy value in what could be his last season in 2023.

NFL Training Camp Notes
Gabe Davis feels healthier heading into 2023 season
Gabe Davis says that he ‘feels great’ heading into the 2023 season.
Fantasy Impact
Davis was a bit underwhelming last season relative to the expectations that fantasy managers had for him, but some of that can be attributed to the ankle injury that he played through for much of the season. He’s reportedly been feeling healthier heading into this season, and the young receiver could prove to be a good value as a post-hype sleeper if he gains a step back after recovering from his ankle injury.

CeeDee Lamb not worried about contract status
CeeDee Lamb is not worried about a possible contract extension heading into training camp.
Fantasy Impact
Lamb has two seasons left on his rookie deal, but he and the team will likely be looking for a contract extension for him sooner rather than later. He isn’t concerned about that for right now, however, and he expressed that he’s just focused on the season. Some kind of a deal will presumably get done within the next season or so, but that won’t have any impact on the young stud for this season.

Calvin Ridley impressing early at camp
Calvin Ridley has been impressive throughout the first few days of Jacksonville’s training camp.
Fantasy Impact
Ridley hasn’t seen the field in over a year after he was suspended for a gambling incident, but all reports out of camp indicate that he looks great and is impressing the coaching staff. He has proven to be an elite fantasy contributor in the past, and he could be a great value at his ADP if he can continue to impress in camp and build chemistry with QB Trevor Lawrence.

Justin Herbert expected to throw the deep ball more this season
Justin Herbert is expected to throw more deep balls in 2023.
Fantasy Impact
Herbert was somewhat of a disappointment in fantasy football leagues last season, and one of the main problems was that he rarely got big plays down the field. This year, the Chargers brought in Kellen Moore to be their offensive coordinator, and all signs at camp point to the team throwing more deep balls this season. This is a good sign for the young quarterback, and he has the potential to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league if he and his receivers can stay healthy all season.

Russell Wilson ‘trimmed down,’ could run more this season
According to James Palmer of NFL Network, Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson has “trimmed down” and hinted he could use his legs more in 2023, something head coach Sean Payton has encouraged in camp.
Fantasy Impact
Wilson has always been a mobile quarterback, but he has always prioritized keeping his eyes downfield and scrambling to create the pass, not for the sake of running for yards. Wilson ran for 460 yards in his last two seasons combined, a mark he cleared in five of his first six seasons. With age, Wilson has been less of a running threat, but if he brings it back to his game, it makes him an intriguing fantasy prospect, especially if he shed weight to make himself faster.

Kyle Trask leaning into physical strengths
Kyle Trask has been leaning more into his physical strengths at camp.
Fantasy Impact
Trask is currently in a competition for the QB1 spot in Tampa Bay with Baker Mayfield, and he is using his physical tools to try to improve for this season. He stands at 6?5?, and he claims that he’s trying to use his size to play ‘smoother’. Mayfield is the favorite to win the starting job right now, but Trask could make things interesting if he can utilize his physical traits better than he has in the past.

Travis Etienne Jr. impressing as pass catcher in camp
Travis Etienne Jr. has been impressive when showing off his pass-catching ability so far in training camp.
Fantasy Impact
Jacksonville has only been practicing for a few days, but Etienne has already been impressing his coaches with his pass-catching prowess. That was one of the skills he had that made him such a highly-touted recruit coming out of college, but he wasn’t used as heavily in the passing game last season as many had hoped. If he earns more of a role in that area this season, we could see his value shoot up in PPR league formats ahead of fantasy football drafts.
