Sunday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings (4/27)
- Hunter Brown has had quality starts in each of his five starts this season. He is striking out batters at a higher rate (28.2%) than we have ever seen from him before. In conjunction with that, he has lowered his walk rate to only 5.5%. Today, he gets to take on the Kansas City Royals, who have the worst OPS against right-handed pitchers this season.
- The middle tier of pitchers is relatively sparse in this slate. The best option is Tylor Megill. His last start was his best start, striking out 10 in only 5.1 innings and earning the win, which led to 32.4 fantasy points. It was his third start this season of over 20 fantasy points. Today’s matchup is against the Washington Nationals, whom he has beaten in his last three starts.
- Jose Soriano is an affordably priced option on DraftKings. I’m unsure why he is still so pricey on FanDuel. He offers a high ceiling, but a scary floor. His 63.5% ground ball rate is the second-highest mark in all of baseball. His issue is that the walks can get out of control. Some good news is that he has been much better on the road this season than at home, and today’s game is at Minnesota.

- Many Milwaukee Brewers have an impressive history against Erick Fedde. He has produced quality starts in his last three games. That’s quite shocking considering he has allowed eight and 11 baserunners, respectively, in his last two starts.
- Let’s start with Rhys Hoskins. He is on a six-game hitting streak, but his history against Fedde intrigues me — 9-for-31 with three home runs.
- It’s not just Hoskins who has an impressive resume against Fedde. William Contreras is pricey for a catcher, but he is 7-for-11 in his career against Fedde with two home runs.
- Christian Yelich is a bit cheaper than usual, even with hits in six of his last seven games. He is an impressive 6-for-13 against Fedde in his career with two doubles.

- Today’s Boston Red Sox matchup is against Cleveland Guardians left-handed pitcher Logan Allen. While Allen has been a good pitcher so far this season, he has been a bit lucky with only one home run allowed. The Red Sox have been a top-10 team against left-handed pitchers in OPS this season and could easily knock a few home runs out against him.
- A first good option is Trevor Story. He is quite reasonably priced for a player who has performed to his level this season with five home runs, six steals and a .297 average. He has excelled against left-handers with 10 hits in 20 at-bats, including two home runs.
- Some of the cheaper Boston options are also strong. Rob Refsnyder is a platoon player with a career .797 OPS versus left-handed pitching. Romy Gonzalez is also a platoon player who has a career .811 OPS against left-handed pitchers.

Core Studs
- Aaron Judge was in this space yesterday, but didn’t play as the game was postponed due to rain. Because of that, he has the same matchup against Kevin Gausman. A quick reminder that he has six home runs against Gausman in his career.
- I should have referenced Paul Goldschmidt yesterday. He also has an impressive resume against Gausman — 7-for-12 with a home run.
- Bo Bichette against a left-handed pitcher is always more interesting than against a right-handed pitcher. He has a career .840 OPS versus left-handed pitchers as opposed to a .782 versus right-handed pitchers. He has yet to hit a home run this season, but a left-handed starting pitcher at Yankee Stadium could be just the recipe.
Value Plays/Punts
- Masynn Wynn finds his value suppressed by being on the injured list (IL) until four days ago. He has had hits in every game since returning. Yesterday was his best game yet with two doubles. He has always been better against left-handed pitchers such as today’s starter, Jose Quintana.
- Another player who is consistently better against left-handed pitchers is Alejandro Kirk. He has a .422 slugging percentage against left-handed pitchers for his career.
- Finally, a very cheap option is Houston Astros outfielder Cam Smith. The Astros have a tough matchup against Kris Bubic. In his very short career, both of Smith’s hits against left-handed pitchers have been home runs.

Sunday’s Top 3 Underdog Player Props
Tarik Skubal’s strikeout number has dropped from the highs we saw earlier in the season. He has still been able to exceed this number in two of his five starts. The Orioles have struggled mightily against left-handed pitchers this season. They have had seven traditional left-handed starters against them this season. Four of those starters have cleared 6.5 strikeouts.
Bryson Stott is on a bit of a hot streak. He has eclipsed this number in 10 of his last 11 starts. Today’s matchup is against right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon. Stott is batting .324 versus right-handed pitchers this season.
While 1.5 total bases is a bit high of a number, we know that Fernando Tatis Jr. can eclipse the mark. He has cleared the mark in four of his last six games that he started and finished, including both of the games in this series. Today’s matchup is against Zack Littell, whom he is 2-for-4 against in his career.
