8 Quarterbacks Our Experts Like More or Less Than ADP (2021 Fantasy Football)

Average Draft Position, or ADP as it’s known by many, is a great resource as you prepare for your fantasy football draft. It gives you a sense of what players are expected to cost, based on how the fantasy community, in general, has drafted. We offer ADPs for individual sites, and you can also check out our consensus ADP which provides the consensus of several ADP sources.

Today, we’re taking a look at players our experts — Mike Tagliere, Kyle Yates, Dan Harris, and Joe Pisapia — are higher or lower on versus our consensus ADP. You can find their consensus rankings here.

ADP and rankings are based on half-PPR scoring formats.

Players Our Experts Like More Than ADP

Ryan Tannehill (QB – TEN)
Expert Consensus QB9 | ADP QB10

Tannehill has been disrespected by the fantasy community long before Julio Jones was traded there. Tannehill became the starter of the Titans in Week 7 of 2019. Since that time, he’s tallied 575.3 fantasy points, which ranks third among quarterbacks, behind only Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. That’s right… despite ranking 16th in pass attempts during that time (26-game sample size), he’s finished with more fantasy points than Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, and Deshaun Watson.

Kirk Cousins (QB – MIN)
Expert Consensus QB16 | ADP QB18

Yes, I’m fully aware that Cousins has continually finished as a top-12 quarterback, but my rankings are based on how I’d draft quarterbacks and not where I project them to finish. Why? Well, Cousins has stayed healthy and played all 16 games, allowing him to finish higher than those right around him who missed a game or two. But on a week-to-week basis, you’re never going to say Cousins is a top-12 quarterback. He’s a rock-solid QB2 in Superflex formats, but he’s just a streamer in 1QB leagues. I’d rather draft someone like Trevor Lawrence for upside.
– Mike Tagliere

Tua Tagovailoa (QB – MIA)
Expert Consensus QB17 | ADP QB22

It was a perfect storm for Tua last year that caused people to question his abilities. Tua was still coming off of a brutal injury, it was a shortened off-season, his receiving corps was underwhelming and dealing with injury, and Justin Herbert outperforming him certainly didn’t help. Heading into year two, Tua now has a revamped receiving corps to throw to that fits his skillset perfectly and he’s had the full off-season to prepare as the starter. We’re not at the point where we can rely on Tua as a weekly starter, but let’s not forget what Tua can do when he’s healthy and has a solid arsenal of receiving weapons. He’s certainly on the streaming radar as we head into 2021.
– Kyle Yates

Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB – WAS)
Expert Consensus QB19 | ADP QB23

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Fitz firmly in the QB1 seat for an offense and it appears like it’s going to be a ton of fun to watch. With a very solid receiving corps around him, Fitz could actually end up making a significant impact for fantasy football this season. He has the tendency to run hot-and-cold, so he might be a bit volatile for your lineup as a streaming option, but he’s going to provide some week-winning performances throughout the year. If you end up deploying a late-round QB strategy, Fitzpatrick is a fine target with your last pick.

Players Our Experts Like Less Than ADP

Tom Brady (QB – TB)
Expert Consensus QB10 | ADP QB9

To think that Brady would join a new team at 43 years old, have zero offseason, then proceed to throw for 4,633 yards and 40 touchdowns is mindblowing. He’s going to be 44 years old when the season starts, which brings us back to the conversation, “When does he fall off?” I’m done trying to predict that, but it must be factored into his price in fantasy drafts. Was last year a best-case scenario? He finished as the QB8 even with those numbers, as mobility is almost neccesary to finish higher in today’s game. Because of that, Brady shouldn’t be drafted as anything more than a low-end QB1 with a limited ceiling.
– Mike Tagliere

Baker Mayfield (QB – CLE)
Expert Consensus QB18 | ADP QB16

We watched Mayfield take major strides in Kevin Stefanski’s offense as the year went on in 2020, but it’s important to remember that he didn’t throw the ball more than 33 times in 12-of-16 games. They want to play good defense and run the ball as much as possible, which makes Mayfield much more efficient. While he’s a great target in 2QB leagues, there’s rarely a week-to-week ceiling to his projection.

Trey Lance (QB – SF)
Expert Consensus QB24 | ADP QB21

Right now, Lance’s ADP is simply lying in wait and ready to catapult as soon as the preseason hits. Once fantasy managers see Lance on the field with this offense, we’re going to see his ADP skyrocket. The one thing that could hold it back though is the uncertainty regarding how long Jimmy G will remain the starter in SF. The bye week is the most likely outcome for when we see Kyle Shanahan switch things over to Lance, but there’s still a strong possibility that we see Lance on the field as early as Week 1. This will be one of the most fascinating situations to watch throughout training camp and the pre-season. Once Lance sees the field, he’s going to be immediately on the redraft radar with his rushing mobility and the receiving weapons he has at his disposal.
– Kyle Yates

Justin Fields (QB – CHI)
Expert Consensus QB26 | ADP QB19

Fields is going to be fantastic for fantasy football when he takes over, but we just simply don’t know how long that’s going to take. With Fields’ athleticism, we could see him put up crazy fantasy numbers as soon as he starts, which makes him an intriguing hold in SF leagues. If you’re not playing Superflex, it’s worth keeping an eye on the waiver wire for Fields to see if you can add him to your roster as soon as we see Dalton start to struggle. He’ll be worth starting in plus matchups in 1QB leagues his rookie year.
