Quarterback & Tight End Streamers: Week 15 (2021 Fantasy Football)

Quarterback & Tight End Streamers: Week 15 (2021 Fantasy Football)

Week 14 felt like the entire season abbreviated into one. Injury insanity was rampant. Elijah Moore went to I.R. Elijah Mitchell was out. Deebo Samuel and Mike Williams, after a week of confusion, ended up playing. Several key players like Keenan Allen, Darrell Henderson, and assumed Week 14 starter Jamaal Williams found themselves late additions to the COVID List. Several of your fantasy leagues also decided to add fuel to the fire by making it the first week of their playoffs. Therefore, players like Jonathan Taylor, DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, and Michael Pittman were unavailable. Teams like Tennessee, Detroit, Seattle, and Carolina had many running backs no one knew who would be worth starting. Rashaad Penny was the right choice. Craig Reynolds (a player no one knew was in the league) got the nod over Jermar Jefferson, who was touted as the running back to roster for the week in Detroit. This mid-week insanity caused fantasy gamers to scurry to the waiver wire and constantly check their rosters. I think in the end, those who made their playoffs are exhausted yet relieved. Those who didn’t make their playoffs are also exhausted yet relieved. It has been an exhausting season for everyone.

But if you managed to flee the depths of elimination, there’s still much more to do. And with some added injuries, you may have to stream, whether you want to or not. You may also want to pick up a second quarterback with upside or a trusted if not exciting tight end just in case. Chances are something stressful will happen to players during playoff time.

Ceiling Quarterback Streamer of the Week: Justin Fields (QB – CHI) vs. Minnesota Vikings

Last week, Justin Fields had another up and down game against the Green Bay Packers, but the ups were far more impressive. He was QB11 in fantasy for Week 14, and that was playing away in the miserable gold of Wisconsin. What was most impressive was he was running. He had nine rushing attempts for 74 yards. He also threw for 224 yards. Two of his long connections went for touchdowns. Unfortunately, he also threw two picks. However, he seemed to be playing with fearlessness and looked comfortable the entire game. This news is exciting for dynasty managers, but his upside cannot be denied, even in redraft. Fields isn’t playing a tough Green Bay defense this week. Instead, he gets the Vikings, who are below average. They are a team that led 29-0 at the half versus Pittsburgh and almost let old Big Ben almost complete a dynamic comeback. It is the playoffs, so if you are projected to lose heavily, you may have to go for it and put all your chips in on Fields.

Floor Quarterback Streamer of the Week: Taysom Hill (QB – NO) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Taysom Hill may not be the best passing quarterback in the league to go along with perhaps the poorest wide receiving corps, but it doesn’t matter. Think of him in the same vein as Jalen Hurts. His rushing production is worth enough as a safe floor. Last week he had 73 yards rushing to go along with two touchdowns on the ground. The Saints dominated the game early, so his modest QB8 rank in fantasy could have been much more impressive if it was a competitive game. He had more fantasy points the week before, playing with a bum hand when New Orleans lost to the Cowboys. That includes him throwing four picks. Even if he isn’t perfect, he is ideal for fantasy. This game could be his best yet in fantasy. The Buccaneers are a powerhouse on offense but are beatable on defense.

Best Match-up Quarterback Streamer of the Week: Jimmy Garoppolo (QB – SF) vs. Atlanta Falcons

Not many predicted Jimmy Garoppolo to still be the starter by Week 15. Many were hoping that the 49ers would turn to Trey Lance. However, JimmyG has been efficient and consistent and has, more importantly, been winning games. San Francisco is currently in the playoffs, so they are poised to continue playing great football. JimmyG’s ceiling is not high, but this week is the best if you are looking for him to go off. Atlanta is currently the 2nd best match-up among all teams for quarterbacks. Only the Washington Football Team is more generous to that position.

Other Options:

Ben Roethlisberger is coming off a great second half against the Vikings. He was abysmal in the first half but was Big Ben of old in the second, actually throwing it more than five yards down the field. Let’s face it; the Steelers are on the outside looking in, in terms of making the playoffs. You can never count out Mike Tomlin, and if Big Ben continues to play as he did in quarter four, then he could be a great start. He plays against the Titans, who are 3rd worst against quarterbacks, so it is a great match-up. Tua Tagovailoa has a great match-up against the New York Jets. The Miami Dolphins are back to winning ways, and Tua proves he is better than many have given him credit. Another great match-up as the Jets are bad on defense and eighth easiest versus quarterbacks.

Ceiling Tight End Streamer of the Week: Gerald Everett (TE – SEA) @ L.A. Rams

This choice may not be popular, but I look at a Seattle team that desperately wants to win to get into the playoffs. Russell Wilson and company need to win out and get help from others to do so. Wilson looked more like himself last game, beating an impressive San Francisco team. Everett has had times of being a target hog and times of stepping into the end zone. He has the most upside out of any tight end on waivers. He does have a lower floor, so be warned. But Everett could win you your week. The Rams are coming off a glorious win over Arizona, but they are mid-table when it comes to covering tight ends. If Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf ties up with the Rams’ demonstrative secondary; Everett could be a favorite target for Wilson this week.

Floor Tight End Streamer of the Week: Tyler Conklin (TE – MIN) @ Chicago Bears

If you need 7-10 points, then pivot to Tyler Conklin. The Bears are tough on tight ends, but Conklin is playing most of the snaps. Last week was a “K.J. Osborn Week,” but this could be a ” Ty Conklin Week.” Even if it isn’t, he won’t give you a goose egg.

Best Matchup Tight End Streamer of the Week: Austin Hooper (TE – CLE) vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Austin Hooper plays the Raiders, who are the 2nd worst against tight ends. I’d have him over Conklin, but I feel David Njoku will be back, making Hooper look less enticing. If Njoku is out, he will be the best safe floor in Streamland. Hooper isn’t exciting, but exciting doesn’t win ‘ships – receptions, yards, and touchdowns do. More specifically, fantasy points do. If Hooper is solo, he’ll get you the points you’d expect and need.

Other Options:

Tampa Bay is the ninth easiest on tight ends. If you are daring and don’t like Gerald Everett for the upside, you can choose to go with Nick Vannett, who seems to have developed a good relationship with Taysom Hill. If you feel daring, take a chance on Brevin Jordan, who plays against the Jacksonville Jaguars. As we know, the Jags are falling apart, starting from the top. Since they are in such disarray, this emerging rookie could be your diamond in the rough.

Lots of options this week. Go with your gut and go all in! Best of luck getting out the first round!
