Alec Pierce became the first player in Colts history with a pass defensed and a receiving touchdown in the same game since passes defensed were first tracked in 1999 (Next Gen Stats).
Pierce finished with 4 receptions, 78 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown, and 1 pass defensed in the Colts' Week 13 loss to the Texans. Highly efficient on five targets. Derek Stingley Jr. did not allow a reception on his only target across 28 coverage snaps against the Colts. This marks Stingley's fifth game of the season, allowing fewer than 10 yards in coverage. Stingley matched up against Michael Pittman Jr. nine times and Alec Pierce eight times in the contest, with his lone target coming on the Colts' final drive in the fourth quarter. Pittman struggled with just one catch for 13 yards in a tougher matchup. Future matchups against the 49ers/Jags are solid, but the overall schedule suggests some volatile play with the Colts' No. 1 WR. Pittman is just WR30 in expected points per game this season compared to WR17 in actual points per game. The TDs are helping boost his numbers dramatically. And his usage is actually very close to Pierce's. Targets are near even in the 10 games they have played together. But Pierce has more substantial yards with his big-play ability, while Pittman has more receptions (5/game). Pittman remains the team's WR1 but will fluctuate weekly in this run-heavy offense. Pierce has 65 yards or more in seven of his 10 games played this season. |
