Weekend Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 14 Fantasy Football)

Weekend Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 14 Fantasy Football)

If you’re here, you likely made the playoffs in your league, so congrats. You may be dealing with some injuries or you just don’t like the matchup ahead for one of your players. Have no fear, this is the article for you. This is the most important week of the season, so let’s get through it together.

Streaming has become an integral part of fantasy football over the last few years. Whether it be quarterbacks, tight ends, defenses, or heck, even running backs and wide receivers at times. If you don’t know what streaming means, it’s where you’ll play a different player at that position each and every week. While it may sound nuts, it works if you know how to approach the waiver wire.

How many times have you watched your fantasy matchup on Sunday/Monday, only to go search the waiver wire for your streamer next week and see a player available who has a premier matchup that everyone will attempt to pick up? Not anymore. This article is designed to give you a leg-up on your competition. That’s right, we’ll be adding the players before they’re able to. With that being said, here’s the players you should be adding to your fantasy roster on Sunday morning. I’m going to be using Yahoo as the gauge for ownership, and we’ll stick to players who are less than 40 percent owned.

Quarterbacks

Josh Allen (BUF) vs DET
The streaming options are very limited when looking for a quarterback who’s less than 40 percent owned, so Allen is the best of the bunch (if your league has plenty of options available, check the other options below in italics). Since returning from his injury, Allen has posted more fantasy points than anyone not named Patrick Mahomes. Gross, right? He’s only thrown 52 passes but has rushed for 234 yards and a touchdown. He’s also thrown three touchdowns over the last two weeks, which provides more of a ceiling than someone like Lamar Jackson through the air. The Lions have been one of the most generous defenses against the pass, allowing 8.4 yards per attempt (3rd-most) and a 6.94 percent touchdown-rate (2nd-most).

Eli Manning (NYG) vs TEN
If there’s something we know about the Titans defense, it’s that they have the inability to cover perimeter wide receivers. They’ll have either Adoree Jackson or Malcolm Butler on Odell Beckham, which should give Manning an outlet 90 percent of the time. The Titans have been able to limit opposing run-games, as just one running back has topped 85 rushing yards against them. If the Giants are able to move the ball, it’ll be through the air. It’s not great relying on Manning in the fantasy playoffs, but he should be able to post 250 yards and a touchdown as a floor. As a side note, if Odell Beckham were to miss this game, Manning would be a no-go as a streamer.

Last ditch option: Jeff Driskel (CIN) vs OAK

Others who may be available in some leagues: Dak Prescott (DAL) at IND, Lamar Jackson (BAL) vs TB

Running Backs

Rex Burkhead (NE) at PIT
This is a game that should net plenty of points, as the Steelers have scored a massive 34.5 points per game at home. It also happens to be a great time for a running back to be playing against the Steelers defense. Over the last five games, they’ve allowed 4.53 yards per carry and seven running back touchdowns (5 rushing, 2 receiving). In his first game back with the team, he totaled a respectable nine touches, which netted 41 yards. If there’s a running back on the waiver wire who could score two touchdowns next week, it’s probably Burkhead.

Giovani Bernard (CIN) vs OAK
We’ve been seeing Bernard get more involved since returning from his injury, as he’s played 77 snaps to Joe Mixon‘s 126 snaps. With Jeff Driskel under center in Week 13, we saw Bernard rack up a season-high eight targets against the Broncos. They’ll be hosting the Raiders in Week 15, a team that’s faced an average of 25.6 carries per game against running backs, which is the second-most in the league. If there’s a game the Bengals can be projected to win, it’s this one. You should fully expect them to run the ball a ton, which should net 8-10 touches for Bernard.

Kenneth Dixon (BAL) vs TB
If for whatever reason the Ravens go back to Joe Flacco in Week 15, it could be the end of the Gus Edwards experiment. We’ve heard that he better suits the option playbook with Lamar Jackson under center, as he’s a downhill runner that doesn’t waste time searching for a hole. Dixon would be the logical one in the backfield if they wanted to go back to the Alex Collins-type alongside Flacco. On top of that, the Bucs are a defense that’s allowed 398 rushing yards over the last three weeks. We could see a timeshare between him and Edwards if the game goes their way. The split in the backfield for Week 13 was Edwards 21, Dixon 9.

Could be a great pickup if Doug Martin‘s knee isn’t right: C.J. Anderson (OAK) at CIN

Wide Receivers

Keke Coutee (HOU) at NYJ
There’s a few things that are guaranteed in life. Death, taxes, and wide receivers dominating the slot against the Jets. Instead of listing a bunch of stats, I’m going to just put it up in graph form for you to see it.

Player Targets Rec Yds TD PPR Pts
Week 1 Golden Tate 15 7 79 1 20.9
Week 2 Danny Amendola 4 4 32 0 7.2
Week 3 Jarvis Landry 15 8 103 0 18.3
Week 4 Dede Westbrook 13 9 130 0 22.0
Week 5 Emmanuel Sanders 14 9 72 0 16.2
Week 6 Chester Rogers 10 4 55 1 15.5
Week 7 Adam Thielen 10 9 110 1 26.0
Week 8 Anthony Miller 7 3 37 1 12.7
Week 9 Danny Amendola 7 5 47 0 9.7
Week 10 Zay Jones 11 8 93 1 23.3
Week 12 Julian Edelman 5 4 84 1 18.4
Week 13 Tajae Sharpe 6 3 51 0 8.1

Curtis Samuel (CAR) vs NO
In case you haven’t heard, Samuel is now a full-time player in the Panthers offense. He’s played 112-of-129 possible snaps the last two weeks, and while Devin Funchess was out for one of those games, he returned in Week 13 when Samuel saw a career-high 11 targets. The Saints are going to have issues defending Samuel, as he’s not going to get Marshon Lattimore in coverage, which means that P.J. Williams and Eli Apple will be tasked with slowing him down. Those two have combined to allow 78-of-108 passing for 1,029 yards and eight touchdowns in their coverage this year.

Anthony Miller (CHI) vs GB
With all the injuries to the Packers secondary, they’ve had to shift Tramon Williams into the slot, which is where Miller plays most of his snaps. While covering the slot, he’s allowed 9-of-12 passing for 112 yards and five touchdowns. Yeah, you read that right. Five touchdowns on 12 targets. Covering the slot is much different than the perimeter (where he’d been essentially his whole career), so Miller should give him trouble, especially when you consider that Miller has caught a touchdown every 8.3 targets this year.

Zay Jones (BUF) vs DET
After he plays the Jets this week, many may run to their waiver wire to snag Jones, but he’ll already be on your team. The Lions defense as a whole has been very weak against wide receivers, though Darius Slay is no walkover in coverage. The good news is that Jones won’t see him very often, as Slay doesn’t cover the slot. The Lions have been moving cornerbacks around, trying to find the right combination and have landed on Nevin Lawson covering the slot. He’s allowed a 116.7 QB Rating when targeted in the slot, so that hasn’t exactly worked out, either.

Deep sleeper: Ryan Switzer (PIT) vs NE

Tight Ends

Dan Arnold (NO) at CAR
I’ve been mentioning him a bit on the podcast as of late, as he’s the primary pass-catching tight end for the Saints. For whatever reason, Ben Watson is much higher owned. The Panthers have allowed the third-most fantasy points to tight ends this year. Through 12 games, they’ve allowed nine different tight ends to post top-15 numbers against them, including seven who were top-eight. When streaming tight ends, you search for one who has a high chance of scoring in a great matchup, and Arnold falls into that category.

Chris Herndon (NYJ) vs HOU
Since the start of Week 7, there’s been just 10 tight ends who’ve seen more targets than Herndon. He’s been doing work with them, too, as he’s totaled the 10th-most yardage. The Texans have struggled against tight ends this season and have now allowed three tight end touchdowns over their last four games. It’s very unlikely the Jets are able to move the ball on the ground against Houston, so we should see 35-plus pass attempts from Sam Darnold.

C.J. Uzomah (CIN) vs OAK
Did you know that since Tyler Eifert went down, there’s been just six tight ends with more targets than Uzomah? He hasn’t been particularly efficient lately, as he’s failed to record more than 41 yards since way back in Week 6. The remedy for his issues could be the Raiders defense that’s allowed 2.62 PPR points per target (nobody else over 2.16), 78.2 percent completion-rate (nobody else over 76.9), 11.5 yards per target (nobody else over 9.5), 14.7 yards per reception (nobody else over 14.0), and a touchdown every 8.7 targets (nobody else is less than 9.4).

D/ST

Buffalo Bills vs DET
Not only has Matthew Stafford lost two of his top weapons in the passing-game, but he’s also lost all protection, as his offensive line has allowed him to be sacked 26 times in the last six games. Because of the pressure, he’s also thrown six interceptions. The Bills will be at home and have allowed eight of their last 10 opponents to 22 points or less and have 11 interceptions in those games.

Detroit Lions at BUF
Remember at the start of the season when we simply streamed a defense against the Bills and were living on Cloud 9? Well, not much has changed, outside of the fact that the Bills just lost what might be their best offensive lineman in center Russell Bodine. Josh Allen may have looked competent over the last two weeks, but the Lions are phenomenal against the run and you must attack them through the air. Allen isn’t equipped to do so consistently, and he’s been sacked 23 times on just 247 dropbacks. On top of that, the Lions rank fourth in sack percentage this year. While the Lions haven’t been a defense to play much of the year, they can provide value against the Bills.

Last ditch option: Washington Redskins at JAX
