Notable players opting out the 2020 NFL season due to COVID-19

Notable Players on the Reserve/COVID-19 List

Per the Minnesota Vikings’ website, this new reserve list category was created for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons. If a player falls into either of these categories, their club is required to immediately place the player on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Per agreed upon NFL-NFLPA policy, clubs are not permitted to comment on player’s medical status other than referring to roster status. Clubs may not disclose whether player is in quarantine or is positive for COVID-19.

According to ESPN, “players may be activated from the list when they are healthy.”

Players Who Have Tested Positive for COVID-19

Ezekiel Elliott (RB – DAL)
Even as this list inevitably grows, Zeke will likely remain one of the most notable names on it. The fifth-year man led the league in rushing yards per game for the first three seasons of his career and has been a fantasy stud since he entered the league. All signs point to him being fully available for the upcoming season, but if he’s limited or forced to miss time, Tony Pollard would be in the weekly RB1/2 conversation.

Kareem Jackson (S – DEN)
Jackson provided 71 combined tackles, two picks, and a forced fumble in his first year with Denver in 2019, and he’ll be needed to help the Broncos’ defense take a step forward in 2020. Keep an eye on his status, but Jackson’s outlook is positive, as he’s expected to make a full recovery.

Von Miller (LB – DEN)
Miller was the second player to test positive for COVID-19 back in April, and he’s now fully recovered. The All-Pro pass rusher will be needed for a Broncos team that could be on the rise in 2020.

Brian Allen (C – LAR)
Allen was the first known NFL player to test positive for COVID-19, and it appears he’s fully recovered. He’ll play behind Austin Blythe as the Rams’ No. 2 center.
