FanDuel MLB Lineup Advice: Tuesday (9/27)

Brian McCann has been very good against David Price in his career

Hard to believe there are only six more days left in the regular season. This week starting off on a tragic note with the loss of star pitcher Jose Fernandez who died Sunday in a boating accident. The Marlins were back on the field Monday in what must have been the toughest game of their careers. As difficult as it is, life goes on and baseball goes on as we head to the playoffs, but first a full schedule of games on this Tuesday night. Here are my FanDuel picks:

Pitcher

Chris Sale (CHW): $10,800 vs. TAM
Sure, Max Scherzer is a top choice tonight against the D-Backs, but his price is a hefty 11,300. Taking the second choice of Chris Sale frees up $500 to help give your lineup some punch. The Tampa Bay Rays rank in the bottom half when it comes to hitting the lefties and Sale is no ordinary lefty. He had a rough time in his last start giving up six earned runs, but look for a bounce back against a Rays team that have hit .113 collectively vs. Sale this season. His opponent is Alex Cobb who has only pitched four games all season due to Tommy John surgery. His roughest outing came his first game back from TJ when he surrendered seven runs to the Yankees. Could be smooth SALE-ing toward a win for the White Sox.

Other Notables

Catcher

Brian McCann (NYY): $2,800 vs. BOS
Sure, you look at Brian McCann’s record this year against lefties and it kinda gives you that fingernails on the blackboard feeling, but McCann has had some rich history with lefty David Price. Lifetime, McCann has hit .345 with 10 hits, three home runs and seven RBI vs. Price and he has only struck out three times in 29 at-bats against him. Price has been far from lights-out this season and McCann has hit a solid .297 over his last 30 games. And the best thing about McCann tonight is the Price.

Other Notables

First Base

Kendrys Morales (KAS): $3,200 vs. MIN
Kendrys Morales has been killing it over the last 30 games batting .358 with 10 homers and 34 RBI. His much-reduced cost is vital if you plan on filling your lineup around Scherzer or Sale. Morales faces rookie Jose Berrios who has been less than stellar in his debut year with an 8.88 ERA. Berrios has given up 12 home runs in 12 games pitched as well. Morales has one of those home runs already.

Other Notables

Second Base

Jose Altuve (HOU): $3,800 vs. SEA
Jose Altuve has hit a solid .347 against right-handed pitching this year with 19 homers (15 of them at home). He has been absolutely amazing. Wish we could say the same about Felix Hernandez who has a 4.19 ERA Post All-Star break. Very un-Kinglike. Altuve has shown some success against King Felix nabbing 10 hits in 22 at-bats lifetime off the righty, whereas Hernandez has a 10.38 in just four innings pitched last time against Houston.

Other Notables

Third Base

Manny Machado (BAL): $3,800 @TOR
This is going to be a battle, with the two teams at the top of the AL Wild Card race facing off. Manny Machado has shown he is not afraid of the knuckleball. In fact, lifetime facing R.A. Dickey he has hit .409 in 22 at-bats. Thirty-one of Machado’s 36 home runs this season has come off of right-handed pitching and he is batting .339 vs. Toronto this year. This rivalry is hot and I think Manny is ready to be all in for this fight.

Other Notables

Shortstop

Asdrubal Cabrera (NYM): $3,300 @MIA
What a consistent player Asdrubal Cabrera has been for this Mets’ team. Over his last 30 games, this shortstop is batting .344 with seven homers, 19 RBI and has even added three steals. In 10 at-bats vs. his opponent, Tom Koehler Cabrera has hit .500 with five hits including two bombs. Cabrera is a cheaper and will have low ownership among shortstops Tuesday.

Other Notables

Outfield

Ender Inciarte (ATL): $3,500 vs. PHI
Ender Inciarte is tied with the Nationals Trea Turner with most hits over the last 30 games among outfielders with 39, but he edges Turner in runs with 25 (over Turner’s 17) and walks with 10 (over Turner’s three). If Inciarte gets on base, he can run and has 16 steals on the year. With these two bottom teams playing for next year, Inciarte is a youngster to keep an eye on.

Hunter Pence (SFG): $3,000 vs. COL
The Giants are number two in the NL Wild Card race and you can bet they are happy to have Hunter Pence healthy. Pence is a great teammate to have down the line for that extra push you need to win. Hitting .337 over his last 30 games, Pence and the Giants are at home facing 21-year-old rookie German Marquez pitching for a Rockies club 17 games out and looking toward next year. This Giants team is already upset over their fall to the Dodgers for the Division, they want the chance to face them in the playoffs. Hunter Pence will lead the charge.

Robbie Grossman (MIN): $2,700 @KAN
Not the flashiest player, but if you are looking to free up some salary for a top notch pitcher, Robbie Grossman came out of nowhere for the Twins and knocked 11 home runs and will face Ian Kennedy who sits at number six on the list of most homers given up by starting pitching with 31 balls leaving the yard. Grossman has been clutch at times and is worth a look if taking Scherzer or Sale as your SP.
