Daily Pitcher Overview 7/31 (Start/Sit, Streamers, DFS)

There are just 9 games being played today and not an ace in sight. You can make a case for two streamers, but frankly, I would avoid them both altogether. Let’s pick through this mess and I’ll tell you who my favorite streamer and DFS plays before giving all of my start/sit recommendations for season-long leagues.

Top Streamer

Nick Pivetta (PHI vs ATL)

The algorithm considers Jose Urena to be the better play today, and while he is certainly the safest, I don’t mind taking a big chance earlier in the week for head to head matchups. While Urena will almost certainly produce a line similar to 5 IP, 3 K, 2 ER, Pivetta just might go 7 IP, 11 K, 0 ER, or perhaps, he will blow up for 6 ER in 3 IP. Getting all those Ks to start your week would be a huge uplift, however, and it is a chance I’m willing to take.

Top DFS Cash Game Option

Sonny Gray (OAK vs SF)

Again, the numbers give a slight advantage to Luis Severino for cash games, but Gray helps us save $600 and while Severino’s average probable outcome tonight may be higher than Gray’s, I’d bet his median is lower considering that Sonny draws the worst offense in baseball. The Giants have been abysmal and you can almost guarantee a quality start against them with a pitcher like Gray unless of course, he gets traded this afternoon.

Top DFS Tournament Option

Charlie Morton (HOU vs TBR)

No one thinks of Morton as a GPP play based on his career 6.7 K/9, but this season, he is striking out over 10 hitters per 9. Add in that these volatile Rays strike out as much as anyone in baseball, and the upside is huge for Morton tonight. Granted, he isn’t the best pitcher so he could explode and give up 4 homers, but I’ll take my chances with the nice price, low ownership and big time upside.

Start/Sit Table

Guide

*All stats based on our daily projections
OWN – ownership % between ESPN and Yahoo!
Score – Based on an algorithm that weighs if their ratios are too high to offset the odds of them getting a win and add strikeouts to your team totals
Recommendation – For Roto and H2H season-long leagues
DFS Cash – Not based on value, but performance only. Heavily favors ratios and odds at getting the win and quality start
DFS GPP – Not based on value, but performance only. Built to focus more on strikeout potential and stamina
*The table is sorted by their season-long fantasy appeal
