Fantasy Baseball Prospect Report: Ronald Acuna, Gleyber Torres, Nick Senzel

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Report: Ronald Acuna, Gleyber Torres, Nick Senzel

Happy Friday everyone! Last weekend was supposed to be the big one. The dreaded service time dates were set to come and go, and there was potential for the arrival of multiple top prospects. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. The purpose of this article is to give you an update on what the top fantasy baseball prospects are up to and when we can expect them in the big leagues. Here’s to hoping they’re called up soon!

Ronald Acuna (OF – ATL)
All we can do now is wait. The service time date has passed for this 20-year-old future star. He finished Spring Training on a tear, but then had to wait a week for the MiLB season to begin. This may have contributed to his slow start at Triple-A. It may not have. Either way, we can’t ignore the fact that Acuna’s numbers don’t exactly scream for a promotion just yet. It would obviously be silly to just look at the numbers, however, since the Braves are well aware of his talent and the impact he could have on their team. Atlanta GM Alex Anthopoulos has said the organization is just waiting for him to get hot, and the good news is Acuna homered this week. Hopefully, it’s the start of him heating up and forcing his way into the big league locker room. If you drafted him, don’t trade him away. You’ve held him this long. If the owner in your league is growing frustrated, though, then go get him. He could be called up today for all we know.

Gleyber Torres (SS – NYY)
The fantasy baseball world was excited this past Monday night. Super prospect Gleyber Torres was pulled from his Triple-A game with his service time date looming. However, it turned out to be some back tightness. The good news is Torres then homered on Wednesday so the injury doesn’t appear to be an issue. He’s been red hot in the minors and like all the names on this list could be called up any day. As of Thursday, the 21-year-old is slashing .372/.408/.558 in 12 MiLB games. If he isn’t already owned in your league you may want to consider grabbing him as a speculative add.

Nick Senzel (3B – CIN)
Just as we went through the Torres hype this week, it was Senzel the week prior. With big league third baseman Eugenio Suarez sidelined, the Reds moved Senzel to the hot corner with his service time date coming up. Then the weekend came and went with no promotion. Worsening the outlook is the fact that Senzel moved back to second base, where he had been playing before the Suarez injury. This can only be taken as a sign that Cincinnati isn’t in a huge hurry to promote him. The 22-year-old is off to a slow start in Triple-A, batting .233 with one home run and one RBI in 10 games. Perhaps the Reds are just waiting for him to heat up like the Braves are with Acuna. Similar to Torres, though, Senzel is worth adding now while hoping for the promotion sooner rather than later.
