Adalberto Mondesi traded to Red Sox
Adalberto Mondesi has been traded to the Boston Red Sox for Josh Taylor.
Fantasy Impact
This move to Boston could be a nice change of scenery for Mondesi. He has played in just 50 games over the last 2 seasons, hitting just .205/.251/.364 in that time frame. His speed has still been strong, stealing 20 bases in that time and he will likely be an everyday player for the Red Sox when healthy.

Jesus Aguilar signs one-year deal with Athletics
The Oakland Athletics have agreed to a one-year contract with first baseman Jesus Aguilar.
Fantasy Impact
Feisand also reported that the deal is for $3 million. Aguilar has hit for significant power throughout his MLB career, slugging 109 homers with a .194 isolated power across 759 career games. The former 35-homer man hit 16 bombs between the Marlins and Orioles in 2022, albeit with a career-worst .235 average and 86 wRC+. Given the power potential, Aguilar is fantasy relevant if he sees consistent playing time in 2023.

Mike Clevinger under MLB investigation
Chicago White Sox pitcher Mike Clevinger is under MLB investigation for domestic violence and child abuse allegations.

The mother of Clevinger’s child reported she has been in contact with Major League Baseball since the summer after accusing Clevinger of domestic violence and child abuse. Olivia Finestead said Clevinger has choked and slapped her and also threw used chewing tobacco on their 10-month-old daughter. A member of the San Diego Padres at the time of the accusations, Clevinger signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the White Sox this winter. The club said they were not aware of the accusations at the time of the signing. Obviously, Clevinger’s fantasy stock takes a significant hit if he were to be punished by the league.

Matt Barnes designated for assignment
The Boston Red Sox have designated relief pitcher Matt Barnes for assignment.

Barnes was designated for assignment to make room for the newly-signed Adam Duvall, a somewhat surprising choice given his track record and $7.5 million salary for 2023. Barnes has saved games for the Red Sox in each of the last four seasons and is coming off a decent 4.31 ERA/3.87 FIP in 2022, albeit with a weak 7.4% K-BB%, by far a career-worst. Barnes shouldn’t have much trouble finding a new team given his career 4.07 ER/3.60 FIP and 29.9% K%, although a potential trade remains a possibility.
