Notes
The Indians let Andrew Miller and Cody Allen walk in free agency, clearing the path for Brad Hand to serve as the team's clear-cut closer this season. At age 28, Hand has put together three straight seasons with an ERA under 3.00 and a WHIP of 1.11 or better, and his already impressive K/9 rate grew to 13.25 last season. Hand didn't experience any drop-off after moving from San Diego to Cleveland, and with little in the way of competition, he is fully capable of being one of the very best closers in fantasy baseball this year.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Doolittle is firmly established as the Nationals' closer heading into 2019, and he's proven to be an elite one when healthy. Unfortunately, injuries have been a frequent concern for Doolittle, which helps explain why the Nationals acquired two other relievers with closing experience in Trever Rosenthal and Kyle Barraclough.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Cleveland isn't as great as they've been in the past few years, but Hand should still get a load of save opportunities for the clear AL Central favorites. He now has three straight years with over 100 saves and ERA under 3.00 so don't hesitate to snag him in the top 110 picks of your draft.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Doolittle could be a top-five closer in a full season. He posted a 1.60 ERA, 60 strikeouts, six walks, and 25 saves in 45 innings. Anyone will need a microscope to see his 0.60 WHIP. Yet injuries are par for the course, as the 32-year-old has averaged 37 innings over the past four seasons. The elite skills-and steady ninth-inning role on a playoff contender-make Doolittle a borderline top-10 closer despite the likelihood of missed time.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Some investors spent the entire season wondering when a trade would cost Hand his recently gained closing role in San Diego. Although not a full-time closer for Cleveland, he recorded eight saves in 28 outings to finish with 32. Of course, it's the 2.75 ERA and 104 strikeouts-Dellin Betances is the only other reliever to record triple-digit Ks in each of the last two seasons-that make him such an attractive fantasy asset. While Terry Francona may want to use his best reliever in high-leverage spots a la Andrew Miller, he no longer has Cody Allen to handle the final frame. Even if he shares the spotlight occasionally, Hand makes a top-10 stopper on the strength of a seismic strikeout tally.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Doolittle only had 25 saves and 60 strikeouts last year, but he had an absurd 0.600 WHIP. That isn't a typo. With a full season, don't be surprised when Doolittle finishes in the elite tier of fantasy closers.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
