Jonathan Papelbon would accept trade to Blue Jays

by Kerry Kauffman | Thu, Feb 26th 6:32pm EST

The Milwaukee Brewers appeared to have interest in Phillies' closer Jonathan Papelbon, but talks hit a snag late last month. With the Brewers signing Francisco Rodriguez to a two-year contract, a trade for Papelbon will have to be with another team. That team may be the Toronto Blue Jays, who have also been talking to the Phillies about Papelbon. It appears Papelbon would welcome a trade should Ruben Amaro Jr. be able to get a deal in place. Fantasy Impact:

Papelbon had a record of 2-3 with 39 saves and a 2.04 ERA last season with the Phillies. Should he be traded to the Blue Jays or another contender, expect that save total to be even higher. In any event, the 34-year old should still be one of the top fantasy closers in 2015.
