Ryan Howard off to good start in first Grapefruit League game

by Kerry Kauffman | Tue, Mar 3rd 4:34pm EST

The Philadelphia Phillies blew a four-run ninth inning lead and finished in a 5-5 10-inning tie against the New York Yankees on Tuesday. Ryan Howard, who had been told by general manager Ruben Amaro that he basically wasn't wanted, got off to a good start, going 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Fantasy Impact:

Howard is trying to bounce back after a few sub par seasons following a torn Achilles tendon. Howard had 23 home runs and 95 RBI last season, but hit just .223 with a .690 OPS. There's no guarantee that Howard's power will return and his batting average has been in decline for several seasons. His health remains a factor and appears to be a risky fantasy pick this season.
