Giovanny Gallegos (groin) has melt-down, suffers injury in Game Two loss

by Lucas Babits-Feinerman | Cardinals Correspondent | Fri, Sep 11th 1:57pm EDT

Giovanny Gallegos was likely pitching hurt when he allowed three runs without recording an out on Thursday. Gallegos walked Sergio Alcantara to lead off the seventh inning and then allowed back-to-back singles to Victor Reyes and Jonathan Schoop before getting the hook on Thursday. Ryan Helsley allowed both inherited runners to score and the Cardinals lost the game 6-3.

Fantasy Impact:

Gallegos had been excellent this season prior to Thursday's disaster. The Cardinals will continue to update his status as the situation develops but owners in fantasy leagues should expect him to be unavailable for at least a couple of days. He now has a 3.97 ERA in 11 1/3 innings pitched for the Cardinals this season. John Gant who recorded a hold in this game, leads the team in holds and is the most likely candidate to replace Gallegos in the ninth inning should Gallegos require a trip to the IL.
